Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle

What a blessing when we visit home, to find such a fine church and pastor and friendly people. All our Christian love Jim and Ellie Johnston

I’ve never been to worship here, not being of the correct denomination, but I get the feeling that this place would welcome any single type of person into its ranks, and make them feel part of things. I was given then experience of playing here when I played in an orchestra (feels like a million years ago). We went at Christmas and played some Christmas songs and Carols, and a choir accompanied us, it was very cosy and christmasy. The building itself is absolutely enormous and kind of overpowering. It’s very light and bright and welcoming too — and very well kept also. I think no matter what your denomination, it’s worth a visit, even if just for the amazingly beautiful and massive windows!

Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle is like marmite. Interestingly, I didn’t dislike it, but I certainly didn’t love it. That said, I’ve established before that my middle name is indecisive, so I’m sure you’re not surprised.
Love it or loathe it, you have to admit that the Tabernacle is totally breathtaking, and for me, it was incredibly overwhelming…
Imagine five dozy teens jammed into the one car, speeding up the motorway, desperately trying to find the turnoff a mere five minutes before the church service begins.
[And blast… we missed it.]
Cue elaborate plan to somehow get us all back on track towards our destination. The now sweaty, agitated teens manage to somehow evaluate the situation agreeably, and eventually land in the church car park, fifteen minutes late.
All of a fluster, the five teens leap out of the car and make a mad dash for the church building. (To say that the Tabernacle is humongous is really an understatement. I’ve never seen anything quite like it.) People are still rapidly coming in in their droves — unequivocal mayhem. Front foyer is incredible, and the massive gold fountain in the front foyer is really far too elaborate, representing the extent of the church’s extravagant ornateness.
Welcomed by a series of ushers, the five teens are quickly introduced to their seats on the balcony, staring in awe at the numerous people around them and on the floor below. The choir is magnificent; the band play well; the preacher is all ‘hell, fire and damnation’, and exceedingly scary; communion is passed around in an elaborate bowl and cup holder, and the service is over.
That’s honestly how it felt, so overwhelmed was I by the whole experience.
The visit was not a negative one, but I am absolutely certain I could not attend Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle every week. It is far too extensive and formidable for my liking. Beautiful church though, and an experience that I didn’t forget in a hurry, and one you should try.

If your looking for a friendly, warm and inviting church then you can’t go wrong here. It is also a fantastic place to worship and have fellowship. It is a massive church, with a huge congregation of around 2000+. There is also a large youth centre which has just been recently expanded to include more young people. This is a vibrant and very popular youth club with some good leaders and a brilliant band. The Pastors of this church and indeed the whole team are all fantastic and really do care about the people of the church. The preaching and indeed teaching you will get here are second to none.

i love this church — always feels like home. The Pastors look after everyone so well and it has an amazing ministry. The music is really modern and lively with some old traditional hymns as well. There is an amazing choir of about 200 and the congregation is over 2500, so when they sing the atmosphere is electric. The preaching is passionate and engaing — not a church you will get bored in during the sermon. They have a large youth ministry and also look after disabled people — they bring them on special buses and buddy up with them in church so they have a helper.

This is a really fantastic place to visit. Very friendly and welcoming the music is great and the choir alone make the visit worth while. PLenty of aprking worth using the short stay tho as the other is very hard to get out of. Ther is an amazing youth club and youth work here so great for young and old.
