Specialties

Showcasing the best of Irish and Celtic Design and Crafts, more than 150 artisans at any one time, has been the major driving force behind the success of The Wicker Man Craft Shop. The work of painters, photographers, textile designers, sculptors and jewellers is permanently on display throughout the shop, whilst the monthly exhibition area has made it possible for new artistic talent to be appreciated by a wider range of viewers in Belfast city centre than in traditional galleries. A free giftwrapping service is available while you wait and a free printed cotton bag is given with all purchases over £50.

History

Established in 1994.

The Wicker Man was established as a dream and an ambition by two jewellery designers, Laurence Burrell and Peter Todd to fill a gap in the local retail market and to give Belfast visitors a unique shopping experience while on holiday.

Born in France, moved to Belfast in 1985, started first company, Palette Jewellery in 1989 selling work through gift and craft shops. Started The Wicker Man in partnership with another jeweller, Peter Todd to showcase work by local artisans and artists. Have served on Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce Executive Council, now on the board of Belfast Cathedral Quarter Trust.

It’s times like these when I’m thankful for places like Unilocal and trip advisor. If you are a tourist looking for touristy stuff that wasn’t made in China, then this is your spot. Many of the items here were made right here in Ireland. There are a lot of different little things, hats, scarves, and different kinds of pottery and art. The staff working there were very nice and helpful. I parked in the front because other cars were there and she helped me to know that I couldn’t. She saved me from getting a ticket there. I parked in the garage (car park) across the street. After we left there, the staff help guide us to our next place to see… Bittles Bar. not very far from there. The interesting part for me was when one of the folks (very old man) whose wares they sell there came in with more stock for them. He definitely had words for them of where he wanted his things displayed. It was cute. I would go back here for sure the next time I visit.

The Wicker Man is a gift shop I really like. Occasionally I call in to browse although I’ve never actually bought anything! It’s geared more toward tourists, however I still love to have a look at all the beautiful items.
There’s an assortment of gifts for sale including art prints, calendars, jigsaws, soaps, jams, chutney, ornaments, hip flasks, musical instruments and yarns. All Irish themed or made by local creators. Every time I visit there are different items on display by different craftspeople and artists. Although I’ve noticed Jim Fitzpatrick’s illustrations are always prominent. Other than Fitzpatrick’s art, there’s a good rotation of stock in Wicker Man, so browsing is never boring.
Wicker Man also run evening classes such as knitting and crocheting. Additionally, there are often weird and wonderful things happening, e.g. beard braiding on Belfast Culture Night! An interesting shop to keep an eye on.

A really good shop for finding all things irish, has nice jewelry for girls with celtic crosses, fairy necklaces and rings
Sells books on irish myths and also sells traditional irish pipes and lighters.
Has irish artists artwork which is always good to buy and very friendly customers and the price is fair enough :)

The Wicker Man is a shop that always reminds me of being young. It ws the first port of call for clueless 16 year old boys looking for a cost effective and thoughtful gift fro their girlfriends!
It stocks a really wide range of locally made products and traditional Irish items like bodhrans and the like.
It’s a lovely wee shop to go into, and is always a good place to find a gift for someone.

I am amazed by this shop. Even the dullest present on the planet — a calendar with pictures of Ireland/Northern Ireland/County Antrim — is nice in here. In fact, superlative, with some of the best photographs I’ve seen for a while on a calendar.
There is, of course, a certain amount of Irish touristy key rings and stuff to cater for the knick knack side of things but mainly the Wicker Man has a good selection of crafts, jewellery, prints, cards (including Jim Fitzpatrick ones) books, textiles (tweed scarves and aran knits).
The Wicker Man is an Irish themed gift shop, but better quality than that description suggests, so you come out feeling good and more than likely bearing a gift which had to be bought right now.

My good friend Katriona works here (tell her Tia sent you!) so I have been in to have a nosey around a few times.
The Wicker Man is a large enough store and sells all manner of Irish arts and crafts from Jim Fitzpatrick prints, The Battle Raid of Cooley comics to bodhrans and pottery. It was established in 1994 by two jewellery makers, Peter Todd and Laurence Burrell to provide an outlet to promote the work of small local businesses.
The Wicker Man currently features more than 150 artist/craftpersons’ work from all over Ireland. They sell everything from pottery, prints, cards, soaps, perfumes, souvenirs, candles, jigsaw puzzles, books, jewellery and sun-catchers.
Every month we hold an exhibition by a local artist, with wine and cheese served.

The Wicker Man is a lovely traditional gift shop on Belfast’s busy High Street. The company was established in 1994 in the hope of promoting local businesses and selling local art work. Nowadays the store sells work from artists in Ireland both North and South.
They sell some intriguing items including beautiful Beleek pottery, some gorgeous Celtic jewellery, as well as work by some enterprising local artists. You can find work by Carrick artist Thomas Joseph, Belfast artist Gary Anderson as well as the exceptionally popular Anna Nielsen prints. The jewellery sold here is really gorgeous, it’s very well made and you should try here if you’re interested in buying the likes of a claddagh ring or a Celtic knot brooch.
The stock is in no way limited to the usual array of touristy nick nacks, even I shop here if I’m after a particular work of art. But for those visiting the Emerald Isle you can choose from a huge range of typical Irish souveneirs. For something different they also have some beautiful picture frames and clocks.
If you’ve never been here before and are a fan of our great wee country then you should definitely not miss it. The staff will greet you with a warm welcome and make you feel more than comfortable. Great shop, great stock, great prices, great people!

I love this store! Even though, frankly, its just a huge tourist trap that sells all the random types of artefacts that Americans practically swoon over. The sad thing is, I kinda swoon over them too. I love all the little trinkets and random bits of wood with some supposedly Celtic symbol carved into the top. Maybe its a form of romanticism or I just like pointless crap, but I could wonder around here for hours. The staff are friendly and always helpful. Price wise, most things are a bargain but there are a few items, particularly their silver that can cost quite a lot.

The Wicker Man pleasantly surprised me. I thought it was going to be a mish mash of old tat, or a profusion of tacky memorabilia, but it was neither. Housing a myriad of locally crafted gifts, jewellery, clothing, souvenirs, tableware, crafts and much more, there is really something for everyone.
Among these delightful gifts are beautifully made picture frames from Galway, Dublin pottery, tweed from Cork, Aran knitwear from Donegal, and much more. There are paintings, prints and postcards, as well more light-hearted souvenirs and buys, such as the humorous Northern Irish phrasebook, and Thomas Joseph sheep placemats, magnets and the like.
Everything has a Celtic /Irish touch, right down to the pretty mood ring (yes, I know I’m sad, but it’s a tradition…) I picked up, which has a Celtic knot in the middle. There are door signs and plaques with the likes of ‘failte’ on them, as well as other meaningful words in Irish.
A must-see for all visitors and locals alike.

The Wickerman has come to my rescue more times than I can remember when it comes to buying last minute presents and this in itself is credit to the shop and the great range of merchandise they sell. The store itself specialises in traditional Irish arts and crafts, which range from jewellery, prints, musical instruments, books, dvds, cds and even crockery and with a great range to choose from you, like me, will never be stuck when looking for a gift for others or even for yourself!
Especially attractive to those foreign nationals visiting Belfast, The Wickerman is definately worth visiting if you want to pick up a gift or two!

If you’re American, Australian, European or from anywhere else other than Ireland — The Wicker Man is a must see if you are visiting Belfast. It specialises in arts and crafts of Ireland in particular — and functions as a gift shop, gallery and general interest shop offering jewellery, paintings and prints, books and tapes, clothing, games and novelties, all of an ‘Irish’ ilk — but it’s not schmaltzy Leprechaun crap, it’s good quality arts and crafts for the discerning buyer and those with a bit of taste. My favourite Irish artist Jim Fitzpatrick, is heavily featured in the Wicker Man, with all of his reproductions and occasionally some original works too, and he is very popular so you can see why the Wicker Man do a good trade. Worth a visit for something a little different.
