History

Established in 1949.

The firm was founded by Alexander Johns in the middle of the nineteenth century; the earliest recorded reference to the firm dates from 1837 at which time it was located in Donegall Street, Belfast. The firm subsequently moved to purpose built offices in Lombard Street, Belfast in 1875 where it continued to be based until October 2000 when it relocated to its present address at 40 Linenhall Street, Belfast.

On 1st January 1949 the firm, then known as Johns Elliot & Johns, merged with Robert Wallace & Company, which had a similar type of commercial and company practice, to become Johns Elliot Wallace & Company. The next forty or more years was a period of expansion and transformation. A shortened form of name, Johns Elliot, was adopted on 1st January 1989.

With the expansion of the practice, and recognising the opportunities afforded by evolving office technology, the firm relocated in October 2000 to a purpose-​designed suite of offices at 40 Linenhall Street situated in a converted a
