Toby Carvery

Did not like the idea of queuing for my food only to then be served a small slice of beef and chicken. Would not dine there again for carvery but would try other dishes

Have been here both during the week and at weekend alway busy. Lots of space to park. Roast is always great, never had a sweet as always too full. Great selection of meats and veg.

Love a good roast dinner… and for the price you can’t beat it for lunch! Mum’s always tastes better though ;)

I visited Toby Carvery last week, and once again had a really great meal!
We’ve been there twice before and so far have never been disappointed in the meal or the service that we receive.
On arrival, the receptionist advised us a 15 minute wait, so we took our drinks to the bar area and sat down. We were pleasantly surprised to get a call just 3 minutes later, so drinks in hand we were escorted to our table.
As always, the food was absolutely delicious, with so many vegetables to choose from to fill up your plate! The three meats on offer were served generously and tasted divine!
We had a sweet to follow (also ample serving), followed by a coke each.
We were not hurried and throughout received a very courteous, friendly and pleasant service by all the staff.
It was nice to see staff with smiles on their faces and they really seemed to enjoy their work. The serving chef was very friendly, and we shared a joke as she very professionally cut the meats for our plates.
Best thing of all though was the low cost of such a great meal!
We will most definetely be going back there again, it is probably the best place in Bedford to eat and excellent value for money.

if it was not for the fact that you cannot book a table at the Toby Carvery and the staff who now work there, we may go there more often.
on a Sunday, you have to turn up, say you want a table and they put you on a list. the waiting time is on average 40 minutes to an hour (i am not exaggerating at all) which means if you want to go you need to get there before you get hungry knowing that by the time it is your turn to a table, you will be rather than when you are hungry. on a weekday evening the waiting time is 20 – 30 minutes depending on which night.
the food is always tasty and there is always plenty of vegetables available. the staff used to be really nice, but over the last year and a half, they have had new staff working there who i presume are cheaper as they seem to lack customer service skills. last time we went was on a Sunday and my partner and i had had our meat and some of our vegetables and were just talking and an eastern European waitress just came over asked if everything was okay and took our plates, we were stunned and we were like what? and she walked off, so on that occasion we did not actually get to finish our dinner but we found it quite funny at the time because it was so rude that is was astonishing but looking back we should have really complained and refused to pay or something.
all in all, a meal for two with 2 alcoholic beverages sets you back around £25 and although i cannot complain much about the food because of the staff and the fact we cannot book tables, we do not go there much.

This is a lovely family restaurant and we visit often. It isn’t exactly in Bedford, but is very close located on Goldington road. Parking is good — so no worries there!
I do recommend booking for this restaurant as it does get very busy, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. The restaurant is split into two parts, a pub and then the restaurant. If the tables are all full you can sit in the bar until they call your name for a table.
The Toby Carvery is excellent value for money — especially if your family have large appetites as you are allowed unlimited veggies and potatos.
I love the atmosphere of the Toby, it’s all very relaxed and there is a definite family vibe there which is nice.
I do believe that above the restaurant there is a hotel which may be useful if you are visiting Bedford.

All my family loves to come here. Both my kids enjoy their roast dinners. My son loves the meat, and my daughter the veg, so here they can ask for what they want.
The staff are very good. The carvery meat is great. There is usually a choice of something like chicken, beef and pork. They have all the extras too like yorkshire pudding, stuffing and apple sauce.
The price is reasonable and everyone goes away feeling full. They do have a dessert menu, but everytime we have been we are all so full after the carvery we have never had dessert.

I love a good roast dinner so the Toby Carvery is one of my favourite places to eat in Bedford.
The restaurant has 2 areas, a main eating area but it also has a bar area which is used by diners when the main eating area is too busy.
If you have never been to a carvery before you queue up for food, first you get your meats, then veg and finally you pick your condiments then you go eat! They also do a lovely selection of desserts but i am normally too stuffed to eat them.
Its really cosy in here and always nice and warm and the staff are friendly too.
