A rose by any other name would smell as sweet is how the old phrase goes! It would apply to this place, as no matter how you would rename it, this place would still have the same excellent quality food! Set in a former blacksmith’s shop, the bar combines old-world charm with a lively, friendly atmosphere and deserves its reputation for great food. My mother used to work here when I was younger and we used to come in here on a regular basis. The menu is extensive with the emphasis being on fresh food, simple but delicious dishes with big flavours. Probably best known for staples including steaks, burgers and prawn cocktail, the pub also boasts a wide range of slightly more adventurous dishes, but when the basics are this good the chances are that you wont want to stray too far from your favourites. This place has had growing competition with the likes of Café Rossi coming after its core demographic, but the Primrose has upped its game and is still the leading place to eat in Ballynahinch.
