This Currys has a decent selection of goods, ranging the whole gamut from cameras, headphones, coffee machines to televisions and audio systems. What they don’t have is efficient customer service practices. Not the first time I’ve been in here and experienced a thorough lack of interest in the floor staff in actually attending to people who are clearly waiting for assistance. Some electrical stores you get hounded by staff asking if you’re needing assistance. No fear of that here. In the last 3 visits it’s taken an average of 20 minutes to be assisted by anyone, even when they aren’t busy. Surely even if you aren’t staffing a particular area you could at least check if someone needs help and pass that on to a colleague? Any how, on this occasion we went in to buy a new microwave after our old one finally died. I’d also reserved an item the previous day(a milk frother, a decadent piece of coffee paraphenalia for only the lowiest of caffeine geeks). Again after the mandatory 20 minute waiting period we were helped by a young guy, we just asked for a particular microwave we were standing in front of, we couldn’t find a boxed one so he checked the computer, apparently it was the last in stock and he said we could have the display one, we obviously asked if this was cheaper since it was a display model and he said ‘no’, we were a little surprised to be honest but decided to take it anyway as it was the only flatbed microwave in the store. After we’d gone through the entire purchase process we were eventually told there was no box for our purchase and they would print the manual off the website. After 15 minutes of struggling we were advised that they couldn’t seem to print it, but could take it as is, again no reduction was offered. I said no thanks, and asked if we could instead have a different brand which was at the same price. After another 10 minutes of having to go through an exchange process, I was asked to pay the 1p difference in cost. So all in all we would have been there 45 minutes to purchase a microwave we spent less than a minute discussing prior to waiting for service. Suffice it to say I pressed the not pleased with the visit button on those ridiculous pods they have near the exit. BTW You’ll be please to know the milk frother does the job of both making warm frothy milk and at the same time making me feel a bit of a tit for having purchased it.
