Millets Farm

It’s on my way back from work, so it’s great to just pop and grab a few things for tea. The fresh veg’s are always a pretty high quality and being able to grab some local items is great. A fan of smoothies, I buy my frozen fruit mixes from their frozen dept (a couple of long freezers). the butchers is also a fab option to grab some bits & pieces from.
During the summer, the place can get a wee bit mad but it’s always worth a mooch.
The garden centre is also worth a look. They stock a large variety of indoor & outdoor plants. Home goods, pretty stuff (not my thing) and stuff for your garden visitors (birds) and pets. At Christmas, they carry a big stock of fake & real trees.
Oh yeh … check out the Maize Maze during the summer & then in the evenings aroung the Spooky time of year.

Millets Farm is a lovely place for a day out, especially for children. There is plenty of car parking, and space to run around, and access to the little farm (with animals ranging from guinea pigs through to goats and cows) is free. There’s also a play area. Throughout the summer there is usually a maize maze and other attractions for children.
The farm shop sells produce from the farm and the local area (and beyond), including fruit and veg, fish, meat, bread, dairy and store cupboard items. There are a couple of freezers and some bulk buy items that you bag yourself, plus wines, beer and cider. The main problem with the farm shop is that it gets very busy, and there’s not much space so it quickly gets crowded.
Next to the farm shop is a restaurant, and there is usually an ice cream stall in the summer. There’s also a PYO farm.
There’s also a small craft shop and recycling facilities. The other large store is Frosts Garden Centre — which sells a good range of house and garden plants together with candles and homewares, gardening books, fish and petfoods.
A little bit further on there’s a trout fishery, but I’ve never been to see it.

Good for exercise, lunch and shop combo, especially with small children. However restaurant below par at best, and certainly not as good as they would have you believe (see the website). Also, sadly, the restaurant does seem to be getting worse, and I’ve spoken to several people who agree.
Last time there I complained about being overcharged. for food being greasy and over-​cooked and for being given a paper bag to take away my grandson’s lunch remnants. In the downstairs shop, someone came onto the raw meat counter of the shop in an outdoor coat and began handling meat and cash alternately. In response to my letter, Millets invited me for coffee so they could show me round and explain their policies, but given what I could witness for myself, I didn’t take them up on that offer I was more about telling them than being informed. We now go elsewhere. Good things: the quiches, car park, space to walk around and hype.
