Service was great but, the food is not very good and its over priced. I will not go back to a Yo! Sushi.

Pretty disappointing as far as Sushi goes and service can be very slow if you order from the menu. The rolls, Sushi and Sashimi are all fairly mediocre but not necessarily bad. The high price for what you get, however, is terrible. If you’ve ever been to a conveyor belt sushi bar in Japan, you’ll see they’ve actually captured a lot of the look and feel quite well — It’s Just a shame the food is so underwhelming and a tad too expensive for what it is.

Yo! Sushi has an easy to work out colour coded menu, and you can order directly from it, or choose dishes from the conveyor belt. As Scott W mentions it is easy to get carried away and end up with a mountain of plates, so be careful! Most yo! sushis are pretty similar, differing perhaps in terms of space constraints, but the décor and layout is more or less standard. The Aberdeen Yo! sushi is pretty spacious, with the option to sit either at the bar, facing the conveyor belt, or at tables which comfortably fit four people, with two being right beside the conveyor belt. There is plenty of pickled ginger, soya sauce and wasabi in the middle of the table. If you ask, the staff can also supply gluten free soya sauce and a low-sodium variety. There are two taps on the table, one for still water and the other for fizzy. Unlimited refills of this water cost £1.05 each. Don’t just take it as if it’s the only option. You can ask someone to provide you with free tap water. In the past I almost always went for the tofu katsu curry, which was tasty, but contains gluten. Similarly I also often opted for the crunchy tofu salad, the batter of which contains gluten. The crunchy is quite tasteless in itself, but is nice when dipped in the sweet dipping sauce. Miso soup is pretty much obligatory, as you get unlimited refills and it helps fill you up, for £2 a bowl. Yesterday I came here with my mum, a friend and my boyfriend. Having recently discovered I am unable to eat gluten, I asked for some gluten free soya sauce and went down the sushi route, getting 4 avocado rolls, a vegetable handroll(containing inari, tamago, red peppers and cucumber), edamame beans to share and inari rolls… Delicious! I left feeling comfortably full, though probably could have squeezed in another dish, as is often the case with sushi. The bill came to around £45, no bad considering that everyone had quite a few dishes and my mum had some sake. Great location in the Union mall, close to the train station and the main shops. You can at as much or as little as you want without feeling awkward about it.

Moshimoshi. Hey, do you remember that Fruity Oaty Bars commercial during the bar fight scene in Serenity? Well, this is the restaurant equivalent. Awesome sushi style food constantly parading round like some sort of delicious rice based fashion show. Now stop thinking Lady Gaga. Have a seat and wait for something that looks like something you’d like to eat come round on the conveyor belt, then quickly look through the menu matching the picture to the plate… oh no, too late, it’s moved on, and it was that thing you wanted, ah well, nevermind here comes another one. It’s all fun and if that thing you want hasn’t come round for a while, press the button to summon the sushi ninja servant who will bring that darn elusive Katsu Chicken Roll to your table. There are also a host of foods that have to be ordered from the menu. Keep an eye on the dishes tho’. It is very easy to eat lots of stuff and rack up a big old bill at the end. You could always wait for one of your friends to go to the toilet and just slip some of your plates onto their stack. Sunday morning is the best time to visit. Super Sumo Sundays is an all you can eat deal for £18.50 Or you can try Blue Monday where all plates are £2.30 I love Yo! Sushi, in any city, but I can see myself visiting this one quite a bit more than usual. The location is great for shoppers but even better if your travelling by train or bus and have a spare hour before catching your next vehicular transportational device. I’ve actually factored in a Yo! hour in Aberdeen whenever I’m passing through. Oh yeah, they don’t sell Fruity Oaty Bars.

As an example of Yo! Sushi! it isn’t bad. The dining area is clean, the staff are friendly and the novelty of watching the conveyor belt and grabbing your chosen dish can be quite exciting. You can even look into the kitchen and watch the dishes being made. This is a standard Yo! Sushi! if you like what they serve, you will like the food. If you like the, for want of a better word«quaint», Westernised form of Japanese culture they sell, you will like the place. If you’ve never tried the phenomenon of conveyer-belt sushi before, this is a good place to start. It is friendly, the décor is fun and the food is non-threatening. But it does eventually become safe, wearing and, dare I say it, a bit boring. If I sound a little harsh it is because the above mentioned style does grate after some time: the incessant, meaningless shouts from the buzzer system every time someone presses the«call» button, the neon colours and the kitsch art work. All these things combine to make one feel like they are trying to eat in the middle of a night club dance floor. And an esoterically decorated one playing music that is constantly interrupted by random shouting at that! All this said it can be an enjoyable experience, the food is nice and the style different. In summary: Give it a try or two, but maybe not a third.

I like this place… plenty of good sushi dishes to choose from. I don’t come here often, though, because it can be quite expensive, despite the free still and sparkling water!
