This hotel is centrally located being close to the main street and major malls and has most of the amenities of a North American hotel trying very hard to be a higher rated hotel. We stayed at one of the suites and there was a good-sized tub that allowed me to comfortably soak with room for one more. The furniture is nice and comfortable. They were going through a bit of construction at the lobby but they were trying their best to accommodate the guests during this time. The receptionists are very helpful but the rest of the staff are accommodating but they seemed really meek and quiet. They had a really good hot and cold buffet breakfast with sausages and even black pudding. They also bring toast over in those nifty toast holders. The breakfast was good especially to cure a wicked hangover. They offered a spa but unfortunately it is not really as relaxing as what is shown on the website and it really is just two closet sized room that is manned by one individual. I did have a Balinese type massage that was relaxing but again the environment was not exactly what I thought I would expect in a spa. I would stay here again if I needed to stay at a consistently good hotel but not for anything else.

This is a large family run hotel right in the centre of town. Good facilities for functions and nice restaurant. I always advise people to stay here. They also run lovely serviced apartments on the quayside.

I didn’t even know about the existence of the Douglas Hotel until I attended a conference held there the other day, and I thought I knew a fair bit about Aberdeen’s hostelry. It was a delight to find this olde-world hotel set into yet another of Aberdeen’s granite streets, this one between a casino and the entrance to the harbour. So, the setting may be less than family-friendly, but the building is like a traditional railway hotel. Dark wood and odd angles abound. The staff were friendly, and everything was clean and functional, if a bit tired looking. There is a reasonably sized ballroom complete with wooden dance floor — and conference facilities. One disorienting thing, a tiny niggle, is the weirdly striped seventies carpet on the lower level, which make the frequent 2 to 3 step level changes tricky. Remember, I did not stay in any of the rooms, so I cannot comment on that side of things. Overall, the hotel is very conveniently located for the city centre, the railway station and the harbour. It’s not glass-and-chrome modern, but seems adequate, within the limits of my experience, and has useful things like wi-fi(password from the hotel).
