Breakaway Charters

We took the New Horizon charter that lasted from 10am — 4pm. This was by far the best part of our trip to the USVI. The staff is so friendly and do everything to make you feel comfortable and make sure you have a fantastic time! Nothing beats the delicious drinks they make as part of the open bar! It starts out with an overview of the day, safety measures etc. etc. The charter includes breakfast, a nice Italian lunch and an open bar. The best part of the trip was snorkeling in Christmas cove right by the Pizza boat. Beautiful and unforgettable experience! definitely a must-​do in the USVI. and its all for a great price of $ 95/​person.

Our excursion with the Breakaway Charters to the British Virgin Islands was the highlight of our vacation. Absolute best day we had. I just wish we could give this more than 5 Stars! We started island hopping through the Virgin Islands, which are amazingly beautiful but then we stopped at a couple places like Jost Van Dyke, and the Virgin Gorda Baths which were breathtaking, we stopped at one island for Lunch, then another island for Snorkeling, then another island to see the Baths and then another island for «Mind Eraser» Cocktails at «The Soggy Dollar Bar». This island was my favorite… wish we stayed here longer, fun bar, laid back beach and the most Amazing color Ocean I’ve ever been in, and I’ve be in a few. The boat drops anchor out in 6 – 7 feet of water and we all jumped off the boat and swam ashore sober and then had to swim back to the boat intoxicated. We all had so much fun. On the way back to St. Thomas, they gave us more cocktails and Shrimp Cocktail, which we all ate and then threw the tails up in the air to the seagulls that were following us.
If I ever go back to St. Thomas, this would be my first place to go. These people really know how to show you a good time!

We stayed on St Thomas and chose this company for a day trip to BVI. Well worth the time and the money. We felt the value was great. Our captain Matt and his assistant Leah were very knowledgable, fun, and awesome hosts. We were constantly being offered drinks and snacks. We felt completely safe and enjoyed our experience. We would recommend to anyone looking for an easy trip to the BVIs with all the paperwork and hassle taken care of by the captain. A true must do!

I did the New Horizons /​Breakaway Charters trip to the British Virgin Islands a little over a month ago. Had an awesome time — the group was small and personable. The captain and crew were fun. John, Leah, and Phil complemented each other well. The stops were at good places (Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda Baths), and short enough that none of the places got old. Was a little disappointed that the food served was snacks for breakfast, and that lunch was not paid for, but that was all offset by the fun we had on this trip. Overall, was a good «greatest hits» of the Virgin Islands for us while we were staying in the US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas)!

I used this charter company three times and had an amazing time each trip! I went sailing to St. John and on the longer trip island-​hopping through the BVI. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious. The drinks are endless!!! Snorkeling was a ton of fun. I actually had my first snorkeling experience with Breakaway Charters [thank you]… and then couldn’t stop snorkeling haha. You get to see a lot and not feel rushed in the process. I went with 1 – 2 friends on each trip and got along well with the other people on the boat. You’re not crowded so you can chat with strangers and/​or focus on the friends with you. I would definitely recommend this company to friends and visitors to St. Thomas.

Went on their BVI breakaway trip and had a fabulous day. We saw so much, and had plenty of time to enjoy the things we were most in to. A great staff took care of breakfast, lunch and drinks along the way while being our well experienced tour guides throughout the BVI’s, on land and sea. The many ways in which they enhanced the trips should include the fact that we leaped through the custom process and were always laughing at the guides witty banter. A group who left port as strangers came back as close as the family members who you actually enjoy spending time with. Six stars!

The sail boat is low its a good relaxing experience. Food and the drinks served are great. The spot they dock for snorkeling does not have too much fish. You might have to swim a bit to see any fish.

This was probably one of the best days of our trip! Crew was awesome– Captain Matt, Leah, and Michelle. The baths were gorgeous. lunch on Marina Cay was just okay– the only thing about this trip i would change. The other boat we ran into– Bad Kitty– goes to a different place for lunch that they raved about. Being a foodie, the lunch spot-​Pussers, did not impress at all. The snorkeling was okay– I didn’t see anything i hadn’t already seen while snorkeling in Trunk Bay. The best part of the trip was the island of Jost Van Dyke! We swam up to the island and hung on the beach for about an hour– wish it was longer! I say skip snorkeling and come straight to this island! Overall, great trip, but plan to spend more than what is advertised– $ 40 immigration fee, tip for crew, lunch, and any drinks not on boat.

We went on the Breakaway 2 day trip and it was amazing! We went to 3 British Islands, we got to snorkel and visit senior frogs on the way home. The staff was super friendly and helpful! They feed you delicious snacks (fruit, muffins, shrimp) throughout the trip and serve you drinks! Definitely worth the money! The baths were a definite Must See!

I went on the BVI trip. The crew was so nice! I had a ton of fun! I jumped off rocks at The Baths, saw schools of fish while snorkeling, and tasted a Painkiller at Soggy Dollar Bar. Here’s a YouTube video I made on my trip:

We went on the New Horizons II excursion earlier this month and had an amazing time! New Horizons offers two trips, we decided to do the $ 135 trip that takes you to the BVIs. We didn’t regret it.
The trip took us to Virgin Gorda for an informative and fun trip to the Baths. It’s a lot of hiking but totally worth it, the rock formations are really cool. Next we set sail for Marina Cay, a tiny island with an amazing view for lunch. Chris had taken our orders on the boat so the food was ready when we arrived. The mahi mahi sandwich definitely hit the spot. Next we snorkeled off Marina Cay. It’s not the best snorkeling I’ve ever done, you sort of see the same fish everywhere but someone in our group managed to see an eagle ray. We continued with painkillers on board towards Jost van Dyke and the Soggy Dollar Bar. You jump out of the boat and wade to the shore (hence the soggy cash) and enjoy more painkillers on a beautiful beach. By the time we headed back to St. Thomas, we were feeling pretty buzzed and happy to have seen so much in one day. You really get bang for your buck on this tour.
Captain Rob and Chris took great care of us. They had lots of trivia about the islands including their inhabitants and history. Music was playing, snacks and drinks were provided and everyone was having a great time.
NOTE if you’re looking for a snorkeling trip, this is not it. There was about 30 minutes of snorkeling, but it’s really more of a sightseeing trip. You get to visit three of the British Virgin Islands in one day, that’s pretty great. I highly recommend this tour, it’s worth every penny!

Had a great time using them for the BVI trip. The employees were very friendly and gracious. They make sure to keep you hydrated and help you out if need assistance with any of the snorkeling. Highly recommend if you want a trip the BVI.

There are a multitude of operators offering day trips to the British Virgin Islands. Most itineraries are pretty similar. We’re glad we chose Breakaway. Their staff was great, and we had a very enjoyable day, one of the highlights of our trip.
The itinerary began with a stop at Virgin Gorda, known for «the Baths.» These huge boulders of igneous intrusive rock show evidence of the island’s volcanic nature. It’s an extremely popular tourist spot, but we had a relatively quiet walk through the nature trail that circles the area, snapping pictures and scrambling up and down the rocks.
Our walk was followed by lunch at Pusser’s on Marina Cay, an 8-​acre tropical paradise with a storied history. The meal at Pusser’s was delicious, though quite pricey. Especially tasty was the Caribbean lobster with a Baby Shrimp salad.
The next stop was snorkeling at one of the nearby cays. The snorkeling was very good, even though the weather had turned overcast and drizzly. The fog hanging over the islands did make for a mysterious atmosphere though. The last stop of the day was the island of Jost Van Dyke and a visit to the famous Soggy Dollar Bar. The bar is appropriately named because White Bay does not have a dock, so anyone who visits the beach here must jump in and swim/​wade to shore. Behind the bar there is a line with clothes-​pinned money drying out. The Soggy Dollar is also home to the infamous Caribbean cocktail, the Painkiller.
Painkillers were served on-​board as well, but responsibly not before snorkeling, which is wise. We liked how Breakaway didn’t just seem like any other booze cruise. It was a pleasant journey, and we learned something. The captain and staff were friendly and professional and really seemed to like their jobs. After clearing customs back in St. John, we left the boat in St. Thomas.

My husband and I had the best time on the British Virgin Islands breakaway day charter. The staff was very friendly and informative all day and were genuinely interested in the passengers and their stories. The batholiths «baths» were amazing. Do the arm crawl through the narrow tunnel — so exciting! Pusser’s restaurant was awesome stop for lunch — their bushwacker was incredible (and HUGE — good for two people to share). Soggy Dollar bar is overrated — go to One Love next door instead. A great way to enjoy a day and visit 4 islands. We ended up getting off at St. Johns just in time for happy hour too — a great day! Awesome time! My girlfriend and I were staying in St. Thomas and wanted to see as much of the islands as possible. So we signed up for the full-​day sail to the BVIs on the New Horizons II.
Our captain was Justin, accompanied by first mates Emily and Rachel. They took us from St. Thomas to St. John where we picked up other passengers. From there, we visited The Baths in Virgin Gorda, then did some snorkeling in Reef Bay near Tortola. From there, we had a fantastic lunch at Pusser’s Restaurant before sailing to the famous Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke, BVI.
This day trip was the most enjoyable thing (among many!) that we experienced in the islands. The boat was beautiful, the crew was extremely friendly and knowledgable. They showed us a variety of places. and kept us entertained. We are going to do this trip with Breakaway Charters again on our next visit to the islands. Highly recommended!
