Montag is something of a Platonic ideal of a micro-roastery coffee shop. They have basically every type of fancy hand pour, espresso, and percolation method on the offer, as well as absolutely delicious Turkish coffee. They are serious about their coffee, and thankfully, not pretentious in the least about it. The staff speaks English(the owner did a PhD in Economics at the University of Massachusetts, actually), and there are plenty of outlets and fast WiFi for computer users. There is a great balcony seating area that overlooks one of the small but liveliest squares in the old part of Kadikoy. We heard some fabulous street music, all from above the hustle and bustle of the crowds and while tasting fabulous coffee. There are four tea options: two types of rooibos, one black(spiced, not the over-steeped Turkish standard), and one herbal tea. There are also simple snacks, and we tried the granola and yogurt with fresh plums, which was mouth– wateringly tasty. This place is a gem, and I’m only reviewing it because it seems a shame that not more people know of it yet(it only opened up about 2 mos. ago, and you have to look extra hard to find it). Montag’s coffee is simply delicious!
