Für Zürich schon ziemlich gut… nicht so spiessig wie sonst. Bei gutem Wetter empfehlenswert, sonst machen die auch gerne zu. Essen ist Glückssache…zentral abzuholen und evtl. Auch schon vergriffen. Einige Biersorten, vertretbare Preise

Frau Gerolds Garten war heute Abend unser Ziel weil es uns vor einem Jahr während der WM dort sehr gut gefallen hat. Allerlei Personen unterschiedlichster Couleur kann man hier beobachten und in einem interessant angelegtem Garten in Holzkästen, mit –Stühlen und –Tischen bei romantischer Stimmung seine Bratwurst mit Salat, Brot und Bier genießen. Wenn ihr in Zürich seid geht einfach mal vorbei.

Very nice place for a «social dinner» or a drinks night out. Full of trendy local and expats, gives you this nice «alternative trendy summer feeling». Highly recommended for a afterwork drinks and light dinner during the summer months.

Wir kamen so gegen 3 Uhr nachmittags in Frau Gerolds Garten und wollten etwas Leckeres vom Grill. Pustekuchen! Grill geschlossen und auch sonst nichts Richtiges zu essen ausser Nachos. Also mit einem Bier und Gazosa und Nachos auf’s Oberdeck, von wo man ja einen schönen Überblick über das SBB’sche Gleisgewirr hat.
Frau Gerolds Garten versprüht ziemlich viel alternativ-​kreativen Charme mit seinem Vintage-​Retro-​Shabby Look-​Mobiliar. Man munkelt, es gäbe keinen Tisch, der nicht irgendwie wackelt. Ob das stimmt? Unser Tisch jedenfalls tat’s. In diesem Sinne, ab in den Garten und Feldforschung betreiben.
PS: die Preise sind für Selbstbedienung schon beinahe prohibitiv hoch, selbst für das reiche Züri.

Open air grill and cocktail nirvana in a dizzying post-​modern setting. Wurst (7 – 9.5 CHF) & potato salad (8 CHF) a sure bet. Alternatives include salads, grilled corn, pasta and steak (47 CHF). Find a table downstairs under awnings or upstairs on stacked railway cars. Not for children or quiet get-​togethers. Communal tables allow smoking, a welcome change from my native Boston’s draconian tobacco rules.

As an American just tromping through Europe, I was not expecting such a hipster vibe in Zurich — and this spot is holding down the hipster fort and is slinging out good food, beer, and vibes.
Stumbled upon this gem after getting off the Hardbruke train stop. It’s a large open space that has a wonderful garden, a rooftop deck, and a tented area in case you want to get out of the sun.
To order both food and drink go straight to the bar area. The menus are completely in German, however the lovely bartender busted out perfect English and stepped me through the food menu. They were offering four sausages that day as well as potato salad and regular salad. I opted for the veal sausage with potato salad and got a large bottle of beer based on her recommendation (Bugel). All of it cost me 24 Francs, which is quite frankly a steal in these parts.
I picked up my food at the grill and also got a free piece of bread (A lovely pile is just sitting out there for you to take). The food was excellent — the veal was savory and hearty, the potato salad well seasoned with a curry like essence, and the beer divine.
I’d recommend coming here with a big group and just chilling out on an afternoon (wasn’t too busy when I was there). I have walked by on a few occasions when the spot was jam packed in the evening — can imagine logistics being a bit tougher then!

Super fun place to grab a drink and hang out with friends. You can’t beat the vibe — recycled shipping containers, outdoor seating, funky gardening, and an assorted crowd. On a summer evening, this is where the action is!

Der «Abenteuerspielplatz» von Frau Gerold ist wohl einer der trendigsten Outdoor Venues der Stadt. Entsprechend war alles bis auf den letzten Platz besetzt. Hab mich dann dreist in die Personalecke gesetzt, den Bahnarbeitern zugeschaut und geschmollt. Die Pasta war nix; unterschiedliche Konsistenz, mal hart mal weich, mal kalt mal warm. Die Linsen hatten keine verschiedenen Geschmäcker, wie ich mir das vorgestellt hatte. Wahrscheinlich ist die Küche auch eher ein Provisorium, und man muss da einfach einen Burger oder was anderes vom Grill essen.

Als Nicht-​Städter war mir das Plätzchen lange unbekannt. Ein toller Ort um an der Sonne ein Schwätzchen zu halten und eine Kleinigkeit zu essen. Hatte Salat und Penne probiert und fand es sehr gut.

I want to preface this by saying that I really wanted to like this place. When I first walked in, I was already impressed: the décor is cute, there’s a lot of room — and the whole place basically reminds me of what a fairytale would look like if such a thing existed in real life.
However, the service is so incredibly slow. I came here with some colleagues for a team lunch, and even though we were pretty much the only people in the place (there may have been one or two other tables that were occupied), the food took forever to arrive. Besides this, their website says that the menu changes daily but this was not the case when we were there. I checked the menu earlier in the week and saw mussels on there twice — that was a little odd, because for such a small lunch menu, you’d think they’d want to maximize their variety of food (and many people are picky about mussels)… but I didn’t give it much thought, since we’d only be going later in the week.
But when we got there a few days later, the menu was exactly the same. Most of us went for the risotto dish, which was fine (the mushrooms, though, were tender and delicious) — but definitely not worth the hour-​long wait we had.

Auch im Winter einen Besuch wert: In einem runden Holzgebäude wird Fondue serviert. Die Version mit Chili hat uns besonders gut geschmeckt. Und das Personal war ausserordentlich freundlich.

ich mag Frau Gerolds Garten. Mer gseht en scho guet, wenn mer mit em Zügli bis ad Hardbrugg düst und denn ischs gnau no zwo Mal umgheie, bis mer döt isch. Znacht ischs fascht no schöner als bi Sunneschii, will denn häts die knuffig runde Liechterchettene i allne Farbe — sottig — wo mi als Chindsi erinneret. Nöd dases kitschig wär — eifach kultig!
Es hät oft fascht ke Platz drum sött mer sich bezite entschlüsse is Gärtli zga. Aber wenn mer es Plätzli ergatteret hät isch gnüsse agseit. Zmitzt ide Stadt so öppis früschs, fründlichs, kultigs, grüens, schöns. Mer chan es Bierli zische, es Würschtli chnabbere und eifach sii — so wie en Summerabig, e tolli Usgangsnacht oder en churze Abstecher zmitzt ide City sött si!

Very casual outdoor restaurant in the middle of Zurich.
Mixture of all different dress-​code, suit, jean, shorts or dress. After work hour, it gets super busy and crowded. Wurst (sausage) (under 10 CHF) or Salad (Around 17 CHF) might be the best thing I would suggest. Pasta was OK but not any special.
Good variety of beer and free get-​it-​by yourself bread will be plenty for you to enjoy this place without breaking the bank account.
Good place for date night, after work drinks or just hang out with friends.

DIE Location in Zürich. Gemütlich & lässig, gutes Essen und Drinks. An schönen Tagen wird es leicht eng mit dem Platz, trotzdem ist die Stimmung immer gelassen und angenehm.
Im Winter das bisher beste Käs Fondue in Zürich genossen im Zelt.

Bester Biergarten inkl. gutem Essen mit tollem Ambiente an der Zürcher Hardbrücke. Perfekt für einen Apéro mit Kollegen oder den gemütlichen Nachmittag am Wochenende mit Freunden!!!

Such a fun pretty place to go for a group outing on a casual friday night.
It has long benches pretty christmas lights hanging from the trees and also the railway right next by gives it an unique environment.
For the world cup season it is always great for public viewing.

Nice and different than most of the places in Zurich with a relaxed atmosphere. food is good, but maybe a bit overpriced. difficult to find a place when it’s sunny and World Cup :))

An schönen milden Sommertagen, wenn man noch nicht von der Hitze in die Badi getrieben wird, ist Frau Gerold THE place to be in Tsüri. Für Afterwork oder einfach zum Sünnele (die Glücklichen ergattern einen Fatboy).
Als ich noch direkt gegenüber arbeitete, machten meine Gspänli und ich hier regelmässig einen Boxenstop auf dem Nachhauseweg.
Die ungewöhnliche Location ist cool gestaltet — man fühlt sich tatsächlich wie in einem privaten Urban-​Hipster-​Garten, und das direkt neben dem Bahnhof Hardbrücke. Ein echt gemütlicher Ort um auf einen Plausch mit Freunden abzumachen, rumzuhängen und die Aussicht auf den Garten und die Bahngleise zu geniessen. Und wie es sich in Zürich gehört, hinter der Sonnenbrille heimlich die anderen Möchtegern-​Hipsters zu beobachten.
Die Preise für Essen und Trinken sind zwar sogar für Zürich lächerlich hoch, aber wenn man bei Frau Gerold eincheckt, ist man schnell so entspannt, dass man nonchalant darüber hinwegsieht.

Super coole location und an einem schönen Tag mit viel Sonne einfach traumhaft.
Das Personal ist sehr nett und unkompliziert.
Das Essen ist gut und zum lunch easy und schnell.

Oh yes! Ich liebe Frau Gerolds Garten! Mal was ganz anderes, und das mitten in Zürich direkt bei der Hardbrücke.
Obwohl Garten auf mehr grün schliessen lassen würde, so hat es doch viele Planzen und einen Teich. Da kann man gemütlich auf dem Kiesplatz sitzen oder auch auf die aufgestapelten Container hoch auf die Terrasse. Das ganze hat irgendwie super viel Charme und style. Obwohl es eben nicht irgendwas speziell schönes ist.
Hier kommt man im Sommer her um gemütlich ein Bier oder Wein zu trinken und das nicht drinnen oder am Strassenrand irgend eines Cafés tun möchte. Zum essen gibts einfache Sachen wie z.B. Würste vom Grill aber auch kleine Küche mit eigenem Gemüse das hier angebaut wird (auf neu deutsch heisst das «urban gardening»…)
Im Winter steht ein grosses Zelt das dank einem Cheminée warm geheizt ist, serviert wird Fondue und sonstiges was zum Winter passt.
Ich komme sehr gerne hier her — aber vor allem im Sommer. Da gibt es nicht viel vergleichbares in Zürich wo man sich so schön in die Sonne setzen, der Stadt ein bisschen entfliehen (aber da direkt neben den Bahngleisen ist das hier keineswegs eine Oase) und ein Bier mit Freunden genossen kann.

Fondue was delicious… but slow service left a slightly bad after-​taste.
This place is pretty cool and happening. I love the round tent, long tables and benches, and alternative style of this restaurant. The ambiance is warm and inviting, comfortable to hangout for a couple of hours. The smell of fondue excites the senses upon entering the front door. The four of us had a reservation for 8pm on a Saturday evening. The place was packed, with large groups and birthday parties. There was a whole lotta dipping going on. Pretty much a no-​brainer, we all ordered the cheese fondue, which didn’t take very long to come out of the kitchen. The sight of the big pot of steaming liquid gold was eye-​popping and titillating. Wasting no time at all, we dove into the pot and started the dipping fest. The cheeses were so flavorful and delicious. I love twirling the bread cube round and round with the liquid cheese on it. The wine left more to be desired but did little to bring down the experience. There was so much cheese we asked for a second basket of bread and got stuffed up to the gills half way through basket #2.
Wanting to go to a bar nearby for a drink, we asked for the bill… and asked… and asked… and asked. The four of us took turns asking three different waiters multiple times before the bill finally came… over 45 minutes after our initial request. In that time, we went from being content, to slightly irritated, to uuuber annoyed, which definitely put a damper on our easy breezy cheesy experience. It was as if they couldn’t be bothered to get paid. I for one was super glad to get out of there afterwards, felt like I had escaped from a hostage situation.
That being said, I would still go back there for another fondue feast. It’s just too yummy to pass up on account of slow service (which seem to be a prevalent theme in the Swiss restaurant industry anyway). Will probably try asking for the bill half way through the meal to get a head start on the exodus next time.

Oh man. Do I hate writing a review of this place? Yes. Do I hate it because it’s my favorite, not-​so-​overrun-​still-​a-​little-​indie hang-​out spot in the city and I don’t want people to know about it? Hell, yes!
But here goes: I love Frau Gerold in the summer time when they serve cooling drinks right in the small urban garden and I love what they do with the place once it is winter and the beautiful chapiteau is raised behind the Freitag tower. They serve fondue (both cheese and «chinois») and it is completely transformed from the cool, laid-​back summer Frau Gerold into a cozy, cottage-​feel gourmet restaurant. And the best thing? Still considering that this is Zurich, you get all that bang for very little buck.

«Frau Gerolds Garten» hat sich in den letzten Monaten wohl zu einer trendy Location entwickelt. Hübsch und eher alternativ eingerichtet mit Girlanden und Lichterketten ist am Abend sicher eine der tolleren Orte um im Freien das eine oder andere Getränk zwischen improvisierten Blumenkisten zu geniessen.
Eine grosse Auswahl an Getränken, Essen und Unterhaltung machen diesen Ort wohl einzigartig in Zürich. Clever haben die Betreiber des Lokals die einzelnen «Sitz-​Bereiche» etwas voneinander abgetrennt. Jedoch finde ich persönlich die Anlage etwas zu gross, und es kommt bei mir ein wenig Open-​Air-​Stimmung auf…
Die Mitarbeiter an der Bar sind freundlich, preislich meines Erachtens eher an der oberen Grenze. Am Abend oft gut besucht.

Sorry Leute bin da etwas anderer Meinung…
…letztens (an einem sonnigen Wochentag) wollte ich bei Frau Gerolds Garten eine Reservation übers Internet tätigen. (ist ja gemäss info auf der HP möglich), ich Tat dies dann auch genug früh (11Uhr MORGENS für 8 Personen um 19 Uhr ABENDS) da mir bewusst war wenn es so schön warm bleibt hat es bestimmt keinen Platz mehr. Den ganzen Nachmittag wartete ich gespannt auf die Bestätigung, leider vergeblich. Um 18:35 dann die Absage mit der Begründung sie haben keinen Platz für uns, aber wir sollen doch spontan vorbeischauen. Enttäuscht machte sich ein Teil meines Teams auf dem Weg in eine andere Lokalität. Um 20Uhr beschlossen sie doch bei Frau Gerolds reinzuschauen und siehe da genügend Platz für alle.
Dass nenne ich schlechte Organisation und eine phänomenale schlechte Response zeit.- Ich musste geschlagene 8h auf eine Antwort warten. (online Reservation)
Mir ist die Lust auf Frau Gerolds Garten vergangen. Zumindest für dieses Jahr,.

This is my favorite place in Zurich to hang out.
It’s in the middle of very cool boutiques, right next to the famous Freitag building, and about a 5 minute walk from the Prime Tower. There are picnic tables everywhere, and about half are under a large, colorful tent. It’s not too hard to find seating, but the place is usually very busy after work. I love the feel of it. There are trees all over, nifty and different styled chairs, and benches, and it’s just got a really cool, chill vibe. It reminds me a lot of Austin, actually.
And the food is also very very good. They usually have two salad options, two pasta options, two meat options, and some sausage options. I’ve had two salads here and both were very delicious. This is where I discovered that ham and melon compliment each other like pb&j! The ham and melon salad was so fresh, but filling, and the other salad was totally different, with heart of palm, oranges, and dried tomato. Both were very yummy.
They also offered a gazpacho which tasted similar to a berry smoothie, but it was also yummy.
The next time I came I tried a pasta with bratwurst. It was less unique, but still well flavored and some good comfort food. The Wiedikoner sausage with salad was definitely delicious and probably one of my favorite meals I’ve had here.
If you haven’t been here, you definitely have to check it out!

I could hang around here all day !! It is by far the coolest place in Zurich. It is an outside bar close to Hardbrucke. It is situated behind the Freitag flagship store.
The architecture is based on the Freitag store. It is all pilled up containers. And the bar is also in a container. You can also go up and there you have an industrial view over the tracks.
You can eat small things there but it is not a big choice. Nice to have a snack.
Staff is funny and friendly.
Pay attention at weekend and afterwork it gets really really crowded.
There are also a few hipster stores at the garten.
Tip: They serve Belgian Beer: «Grimbergen»

Vor ein paar Wochen hab ich es geschafft. Endlich! Ich habe bei Frau Gerold eingekehrt. Wir waren über Mittag da, ein schöner, sonniger Tag war es. Ich hatte ein Bierchen und die Aglio e Olio Pasta genommen.
Man bestellt, zahlt und kriegt einen Buzzer. Dann sucht man sich ein Plätzen und geniesst die Frische Luft, bis der Buzzer abgeht. Und dann herrsch Freude. Meine Pasta war ziemlich scharf, stand aber auch so auf dem Menü, zum Glück gibt’s hier für alle Gäste gratis Wasser zum Essen dazu. Es war sehr lecker. Als Saucenfreak war es mir ein bisschen zu trocken, aber das bringt das Gericht ja nunmal mit sich, also nichts zu meckern.
Die Preise sind auch in Ordnung und alles in allem ist es einfach eine tolle Art zu Essen. Total Kreis 5 halt.
Ich habe letzte Woche beim vorbeigehen bemerkt, dass aufgrund des fortgeschrittenen Jahres der Aussenbereich nicht mehr offen ist: Dafür lädt nun das Frau Gerolds Herbst Zelt ein. Und da gibt’s nun abends auch Glühwein. Mein Herzlein springt gleich höher :D

Frau Gerolds Garten ist der perfekte Ort um den Arbeitstag ausklingen zu lassen oder den Abend zu starten.
Die Location ist sehr gemütlich und liebevoll eingerichtet. Man fühlt sich sofort wohl. Das Essen ist sehr lecker.
Wer in der Nähe arbeitet sollte unbedingt über Mittag vorbei gehen.

Ich sag mal, Tanja H. hat es ziemlich auf den Punkt gebracht. Mehr gibt’s kaum noch über diesen wunderbaren Ort zu sagen. War kürzlich mit einem Kumpel für ein, zwei Bierchen dort und kam auch fast nicht mehr weg. Die Lichterketten, die dem Garten von Frau Gerold — die leider nur fiktiv ist — eine gemütliche Atmosphäre verleihen, die Container, von denen aus man über das ganze Areal sehen kann, die Bänke, an denen man die verschiedensten Leute trifft, die Bar, das Personal,. alles ist perfekt! So was hat Zürich einfach noch gefehlt, ich hab mich sofort in diese Location verliebt!

This place has a great location, right in the heart of Zurich’s hipster district — Hardbruke. It’s a rather unique spot with lots of different places to get a drink — either in the gardens itself or up on the top of the storage containers where you can get served.
I was with a mate and we sat down in the self-​service part of the gardens. This was late summer so days are long and there is a nice vibe with a DJ playing and people coming in and out. Drinks are more expensive than other bars — 17 CHF for a large glass bottle Swiss beer is pushing it, even for Switzerland.
I would have rated this two stars but I’ll give it three because it’s a great place to checkout and I hope they continue to expand the offerings/​events in the coming months.
