Came here during a day trip Pros: — Beautiful views from the top of the church(which is a 10 – 15 min walk from where the funicular drops you off) Cons: — Expensive to take the funicular up and down(26 euros roundtrip) — I didn’t hike up/down since we were short on time so I don’t know the hike time; it runs every half an hour — I was expecting more of a hike at the top, usually an additional hour or two hike one way but there isn’t much else once you get to the top of the church

You can hike up to the top of Monte San Salvatore or take the funicular up. The funicular doesn’t run all year round, it runs March — November. You have to change halfway up to another car before making it to the top. The first half is not as steep as the second car. At the top you can walk around and go on for other walks and panoramic views. Their is a restaurant, museum, and church at the top. The views are breathtaking. You have fantastic 360 degree views of the alps, lakes, and Lugano region. It is definitely worth a trip to the top. Be sure to not miss walking up the stairs to the roof of the old church to catch an even better view.
