Very much enjoyed lunch here. Lots of locals and right on the market square in the old part of town. We plan to go back while in Basel.

Da würde ich nicht mehr hingehen! Der ältere Herr der servierte war schlecht gelaunt und sehr unfreundlich! Für Allergiker nicht geeignet! Lokalisation top, daher sehr schade!

The ice cream was amazing. The service was great and the people watching in Marketplatz was fun.

Have eaten here quite a few times when I am in Basel. The food is good — they had an amazing Quiche, but it’s not on the menu anymore. Not sure if it’s a seasonal item, but it was great. The items are quite good as well, and the ice-cream? YUM!

Sundays in Switzerland leaves you with very few choices of open anything. Sunday is the day of rest in this country so everything is closed, except a few restaurants. We found this one while walking thru the Marketplatz, open with an outdoor patio. Looked perfect after a long day of flea markets and museums. We got the schnitzel, BBQ ribs, Steak + fries, and french onion soup. We devoured it all. Was really good, or we we’re just super starving. Their idea of a salad bar is nothing like we know it in the states. Small, but had some nice stuff on it. They had this big, beautiful menu of all their fancy desserts! All that used Movenpick ice cream, this is like the Ben & Jerry’s of Europe. As we watched group after group just coming in for dessert, this was definitely the spot not to pass on that extra course. So we had to end the meal with some famous Movenpick ice cream. Fabulous! There’s only one other review here, and they nailed it on the understaffed tip, and order everything at once. We were left hanging for so long and could not find out waiter, finally asked someone else, and then we all saw our waiter in his street clothes drinking a beer getting ready to leave. He never said anything to us, and then a girl started helping us out. Aww, Europe! I think the best part of this place was sitting right in the Marketplatz, and being surrounded with the most beautiful buildings. During the week the square is completely full of vendors a la farmer’s market. On a Sunday it was completely empty.

Pros: really good hours for Basel(open late, and on Sundays!), good food(traditional Swiss). Cons: understaffed. Only two waiters attending to a room of 40 – 50 tables. Make sure to order everything in one go!
