While in San Sebastian, I searched high and low for a heladeria with turron ice cream. All of the ice cream shops we visited had vanilla, chocolate, hazelnut: all of your standard flavors. But no turron. Who would have thought it was so difficult? Finally, during one of my post-dinner strolls, we found La Veneziana. There was a queue formed inside of the shop, but a peek close to the ice cream case indicated that there was turron ice cream to be had! The two youngsters working behind the counter ensured that the line kept moving and in a few minutes’ time, I had a turron and chocolate ice cream cone. Not only were the prices much better than the ice cream shops located along the route that most people choose to take their evening walk, but the ice cream had much more flavor than some of the more«commercial» shops near the old part of San Sebastian. The chocolate ice cream was richer and creamier than the more subtle turron, but it was good to be satisfied with such a post-pintxos find.

Gelato insanity. More flavors than you can shake a stick at and very sweet gals behind the counter ready and willing to let you sample ‘em all. Keep it moving though, this Heladeria locale is in a busy, touristy, shopping area of town and is bustling with customers. Dilly-dallying is not acceptable. Since decisions aren’t always easy to come by where gelato is concerned, I’ll gladly let you in on a little secret: go for the Kinder(pronounced KIN-durr) Cream. It’s counterpart, a popular Euro candy bar of the same name, is found here transformed into frozen dairy deliciousness. Sweet cream gelato with a super heavy-handed fudge playfully swirled throughout. Yup. It’s TODIE.
