For some years, I spend about a week a year in Spain on the Costa Blanca. And each year, we have that same great habit: going to the port of Calpe (a must) to spend the evening and eat great seafood!
This year, tired of servers that harass you when you walk along the port, I decided to launch my Unilocal app, looking out for a good place where we are not accosted every 10 meters!
Thanks to Unilocal,I found «Baydal» — quite good rated and great location with nice views (port, sea and boats) when you sit on the terrace. Prices are higher than in the other restaurants but it is worth! A lot of local and Spanish people are coming here so it is always a good sign!

The fish is really delicious here. I would have wanted to eat a proper meal here but i only took Something for the hunger. The meat is average but the restaurant is specialized in fish courses and you can tell that from the dishes. The only thing i dont like is the lack of english the staff has. But this restaurant mostly serves locals. If you come here most definetly try the fish.

Restaurante especializado en arroces al senyoret y que personalmente, junto con el arrós negre, recomiendo encarecidamente.

De los primeros restaurantes construidos por la zona, todavía conserva su encanto con todas las comodidades posibles: terraza completamente acristalada con aire acondicionado, televisión, empleados residentes en la zona, etc.
Carta
Como ya he dicho, el restaurante está especializado en arrós al senyoret y, cuando estés allí, verás que es básicamente lo que se pide. Este arroz tiene una peculiaridad, los últimos 5 minutos de cocción los pasa dentro del horno que le da una característica y deliciosa costra y una textura única.
Puedes optar por pedir platos sueltos y que la factura se te dispare por las nubes o pedir menú (20 € por persona, bastante caro) que te incluye una ensalada, pulpo guisado (típico de Calpe y realmente bueno, si te gusta el pulpo) o pulpo a la gallega, fritura de pescado (no le pongas limón, le quita toda la gracia), el plato principal «arrós al senyoret» y luego postre a elegir entre: piña natural, tarta de helado nórdica, sorbete de limón al cava, tiramisú o crema catalana.
Personalmente recomiendo tanto la crema catalana (LA crema catalana, con mayúsculas) y el tiramisú.

The fish is fresh and wonderful. Try and translate the bits of the menu that remain in Spanish, you’ll get a bit more fort your money.
Not the cheapest place around. They don’t send out touts to get your business like the other restaurants on the front.
Depending upon the time of year, parking can be an issue. We have always managed to park on the harbour front early evening say about 18:30.
Remember August is the Spanish holiday season too.
I have given them 5 stars because the food is always good, but I sometimes question the value for money. By way of an example, the Café Latitude in Denia offers better value.
Don’t be fooled by the fish restaurants on the front. They are not what you see is what you get.
Most of the staff at the Baydal have worked there for donkey’s years. There English isn’t great, but you can get your order across. Do try some Spanish, it is appreciated, even if only get the kids to say «Gracias».
I can recommend the sole meunière.

Es un restaurante bastante amplio, con cristaleras envolviéndolo completamente y bien delimitado entre el espacio de fumadores (50 plazas) del de no fumadores (150 plazas), bien acondicionado.
El problema reside en el precio de los productos. Por ejemplo, por un plato de calamares rebozados para 6 personas en el que venían 7 anillas, como leeis, nos cobraron 12 €. Una ración de arroz ronda los 13 €, que no parecen mucho, si no fuera porque en el club náutico que está a 50 metros de este restaurante lo ofrece a 10 € la ración, de mucha mejor calidad y sabor, y con mejores instalaciones.
El agua no tiene formato grande, es decir, sólo tienen de ½ litro y la cobran a precio de tamaño grande, y por una jarra de sangría ‘te sangran’, a 11,50 €.
Decir que a estos precios hay que sumarle el IVA. No lo recomiendo a menos que no haya más opción, más que nada porque hay muchos otros lugares en la zona (en torno a 50−100mts) que ofrecen mejor calidad por menor o igual precio.
