Elite Event: Beer Pairing at The 1925 Microbrewery

My first YEE abroad and it was fantastic. By mere coincidence, I was going to be in Singapore with friends so I emailed the CM, Michelle, to see if she can squeeze us in; she did! Michelle was absolutely warm, friendly, and made us feel welcomed. Not to mention, the food sampling were delicious… definitely hard to say which one was my favorite. And to top it all off, I got a nice souvenir — limited edition lager!

My favorite event so far. (Although I may be a bit influenced simply by the fact that it was in a microbrewery.) The food was creative and well made, the staff was amazing, and of course their BLK 6.22 turned out to be a very respectable, well-​crafted beer. Great work by Michelle for organizing, and a big thanks to the owners of 1925 for being such attentive hosts.

instead of detracting from this event, my wardrobe malfunction before and DURING, made it even more memorable than it already was!!!
this YEE surpassed the others that i have attended by miles (greater than 1.60 934 kms)!
i mean you get a free beer fresh from the tap and then if you check into the event you get another free bottled beer (limited edition at that and thoughtfully paired with a Unilocal bottle opener just in case of emergency) to bring home?!
who was it complaining about the lack of alcohol at Unilocal SG’s events!!!;)
we had the best bouncer (thanks uncle!) at the door checking my ID to make sure i am of drinking age!:)
we had the best keeper (thanks aunty!) of free beer tickets, even all my charms could not prise any away from her!;)
we had the best host (thanks1925!) whom i felt were genuine in wanting to strike up an on-​going relationship and not just merely going through the motion of doing a one off publicity stunt.
they welcomed us freeloaders with great hospitality and generousity.
everyone was friendly and keen to make sure we had a good time.
they were not stingy with food either, as they brought out more when they realized some have not got their hands on any.
we had the best organizer (thanks Michelle!) with the midas touch.
from the reminders, the mandarins, the freebies ( Unilocal beer glasses!) and the choice of venue.
much must have gone on behind the scene to make it the resounding success that it was!
we had the best crowd (yes, you Unilocalers!), old and new, elite and non, overseas and locals, all mingling like it was 1999!
just like the fine wine that gets better with time, so too our YEEs!;)

I didn’t know of this restaurant until the Elite Event. When Michelle announced this event, it took only a few seconds to decide — one of the easiest decision to make. I have programs on Wednesday night usually, but I changed it to another day just to attend this one and it is worth it!
It’s not difficult locating this place, thanks to google map. Not too far away from Farrer Road Station (City Square Mall exit) if you are taking the train. Apart from the great hospitality by the host, this place offers great ambience which impressed me the moment I step into it. The restaurant may be small but the atmosphere is perfect for conversation and fine dining. After dining, a variety of alcoholic beverage is offered for continuous catching up with friends… etc.
During this Elite Unilocal Event, we get to sample 3 of the restaurant’s dishes.
1^st: Deep Fried Chicken Skin — it’s crispy.
2^nd: Pork Belly — My favourite among the 3. You have to try it!
3^rd: Crispy egg Aglio Olio — I like the spicy taste of the noodle.
In addition, we had 3 choices for our drink:

I choose the Queen Bee since I was already drinking Redffine Beer (Excellent) at that time and it was quite nice.
What attracted me most is the French Fries and the Wasabi sauce — I could eat the whole plate! The sauce is well-​done and the fries is worth the deal! Thanks to Ling, a few of us got to sample Chicken Skewers and it was delicious.
To top it off, I had a great time interacting with both old and new Unilocalers — you guys rock! The service from the boss and his staff were excellent and I am looking forward to my next trip back to this friendly restaurant.

Hesitated to review this as this will be my last YEE before heading to Sydney but decided to write a descriptive piece instead.
Came here with Charles and Jie Yi so for the direction part I let them lead and did not really use Googlemap to locate the restaurant.
Coming into the restaurant, it was visible that the passageway was quite narrow as the shop size was small and the owners had to maximized the space. Upon entering, was greeted by Michelle’s parents and the staffs. Since we were there early, we were able to choose our seatings. The ambience was pretty cosy and it had more darker furnitures to make it looked modern. Received the limited edition beer after checking in (first 30 only) but decided to just leave on the table and ordered the Queen Bee (cocktail with Vodka) instead.
The food samples came slightly after 7.15pm as promised as guests are trickling into the restaurant. Tried the deep fried chicken skin — tasted more like the pork skin I had from Bali, definitely crispy like what others had commented. The second dish was pork belly. It was juicy and tender. It was also not as oily as I thought it might be. The sauce definitely complimented the pork belly. And the last food sampler was the crispy egg Aglio Olio. The noodle was soft and chewy and the hint of spices definitely lingered in the mouth. For the Queen Bee, it was refreshing and more fruity taste to it (probably with the addition of slices of limes).
As some of us on our table had yet eaten our dinner, I decided to order the mix fries sampler (truffle fries, seaweed and wasabi fries and spicy fries with truffle mayo dip and wasabi dip) for our table to share. Out of the three fries, the truffle was my first choice as it has a lighter taste which complimented the cocktail I had. As the fries wasn’t really facing on my side, I kept taking the wasabi fries and ended up having to drink more as it was pretty «spicy» for me. The spicy fries reminded me of the curly fries from Jack in the Box. Overall, it was definitely dish to call for big groups. Sampled the chicken skewers as well and it was pretty juicy.
Overall, it was another excellent event once again! Thank you Michelle and the staffs for putting all these together. Besides that, I am thankful that both the new and the old Unilocalers were able to entertain me for the whole night. Will definitely miss all of you but hopefully will be able to join most of you again in late June or early July :)

Great event as always! Huge thanks to our hardworking CM Michelle for putting everything together, it’s getting bigger and better at every event!
I particularly enjoyed their in-​house pale ale «The Yellow Van» (4.5% ABV). They also had some pork belly appetizers to go around. I ordered the sliders, and those were pretty good too. Each slider had a different filling (fish, chicken and beef)
Each Unilocaler received a limited edition lager with a custom design, specially for us! Somehow, I wanna keep it and I don’t wanna open it… (maybe I’ll report back once I drink it) We also got custom Unilocal beer glass!
Good beer and good company. I’ll be back.

Another awesome elite event organized by CM Michelle.
Held at a shop house in the Jalan Besar area the Microbrewery is pretty steeped in history. The walls were stripped bare and left «as is». not because there were fights and holes were gouged into the concrete walls (yes, I asked!).
The place was packed and it had a good vibe where this could be a neighborhood bar for those living in the vicinity. We had 3 choices for our drink (2 of their own craft beers — Blk6.22 (dark ale) and Yellow Van (pale ale) plus a cocktail Queen Bee (honey vodka and something). I don’t really drink and they kindly mixed in sprite into the Yellow Van for me. Yes, I know it is sacrilegious.
The food they provided was a nice sample of what they have in the menu — deep fried chicken skin which was quite airy that it reminded me of chicharron. Pork belly was tasty and the crispy egg aglio olio was a bit spicy and equally good.
Besides the terrific people who filled the place yesterday, the happy hour prices were fabulous. $ 5 for a half pint??? That was pretty amazing to me. The service staff/​owners were fantastic too.
A great night of catching up with other Unilocalers and meeting new Unilocalers. Thank you Michelle!

This is my first time here and I would like thanks our CM Michelle for organising this awesome event. I definitely enjoy myself yesterday catching up with fellow Unilocalers. Didn’t stay for long but will be back for more beers and drinks.
