An amazing little find in the area of the Christopher Columbus statue in Old San Juan… small food stand in the middle of the plaza area with tons of local choices from mofongo to templeque. My husband and I each had a mofongo combo — I had chicken. The chicken was shredded and seasoned perfectly. The combo comes with a drink(either soda or juice) and dessert. I got the templeque which was good but nothing to go out of my way for… However their alcapurria was by far the best I have tried in a LONG time. So much beef and so flavorful. We also tried a beef empanada and boy they do not skimp on their fillings! Small seating area near the kiosk. A must try if your not looking for a large filling lunch and want to try some local fare… Have fun :)

On our vacation, my boyfriend and I discovered our new favorite dish, mofongo. We visited many restaurants that serve this tasty treat, but Kiosko Mofon’go had to be at the bottom of our list in terms of quality and taste. The service at this stand was friendly and fast, but watching the employee take the mofongo from the freezer and place it in the microwave was off-putting to us. Yes, I know this is a food stand, but still. We couldn’t even finish half of our meal, as the plaintains and chicken tasted… well… microwaved.

Mo’fongo is a cute little outdoor shack right by the Christopher Columbus monument, near the front of Old San Juan. It is a great place to sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere of Old San Juan while having a quick snack. They have a simple menu of mofongo($ 6 each), empanadas($ 2 each), and other small snacks and desserts. Don’t let the little packages fool you — even though the mofongo base was pulled out of the freezer and microwaved, the flavor is still well preserved and even better than some mofongo that I’ve had at other restaurants. Beef is also very well spiced. Cash only

Tried the trifongo. It was delicious! I didn’t know what mofongo was, so I didn’t want to try it for the first time in a restaurant. For about $ 6, I got a lil bowl of delicious mofongo. Tasty treat when beginning a tour of Old San Juan.

Our first stop for a snack in Old San Jan. I ordered the trifongo– yellow & green plantains, cassava and beef. DELICIOUS! Had a nice shady area to eat and people watch! If you’ve never tried mofongo or trigongo, you will not be disappointed.

Fantastic mofongo, in more convenient, smaller portions – great when you’re on the go. Do order the tres leches and café con leche for dessert.
