Fabuloso lugar

This is a great restaurant. The food was incredible. Service personable. The mussels starter was delicious. I had the tastiest and leanest pork ribs ever. My wife talked to her octopus entre, and we both thought the home made potato chips incredible. You can’t go wrong eating here. And the purse and passport that my wife left were there when they opened up the next day. Thank you for that!

Probably one of the best, most authentic meals we’ve ever eaten in Portugal(great price too but that’s irrelevant). Not a super fancy restaurant, just clean, friendly service, and amazing food and views. They clearly care about your dining experience. Sit upstairs by the window and savor the food, the views and the moment. The pork loin was superb as was the salmon. Both cooked perfectly(I mean perfectly!!). The sides were heavenly. Try the secret cookie dessert too. The wine list isn’t fancy but you’ll find something to compliment the meal. The reds get better with a bit of air. I wasn’t sure about the night when we walked in but left smiling and very satisfied. This isn’t your Portuguese grandmother’s cooking it’s much better!

I travel all over the world. Once in a great while I run into a restaurant where the proprietor loves his place and the whole atmosphere expresses his enthusiasm. The food was excellent as were the wine and port.

Popped in for lunch at this place today just cause it looked quaint and cool. It was all that and more. I had a simple, delicious lunch of cabbage soup, fried fish, fluffy rice, salad and a glass of Vinho Verde for 7 euro. Lovely river view and friendly service. Simple, local and delicious. I’d go back.

Been here during one of our holidays, the place is quite small and welcoming, make sure you book beforehand because it tends to get pretty packed as it’s ranked high in Unilocal and Tripadvisor so tourists tend to come. The waiters are simply great and make a very good job at getting the guests feel welcomed and cared of. Cuisine is quite standard Portuguese, so simple and fresh… Delicious! All in all a good place, a bit on the pricey side(for Portugal) but all is well deserved. If you get a seat by the window the dinner is MUCH better as you see the Douro and the tram passing by, quite a scenery! :)

We went here for lunch yesterday then came back for dinner. Everything was good. The cookies and cream dessert(bolacha?) was great. Bacalhau a papavinhos was also outstanding. Hard to believe how good of a meal you can get here for 2 people for under 40 Euros with wine. It looks like a it might be run by a family with the grandmother in the kitchen.

Best seafood fish and restaurant for sure in this area. Unbelievable delicious fish dishes for fair prices. Take a table in the right corner near the window, the view is grandiose. Liter of house wine and octopus as a starter, perfect dinner is guaranteed.

Papavinhos is a terrific place to eat and very popular with locals. I ate dinner there twice during a six day visit. I could have easily gone there every night. I had a fried fish dish, dorado, with onion ‘gravy’. It’s actually a carmelized onion ‘stock’. OMG, the best fish dish I’ve ever eaten. Cooked to perfection with incredible favors. Portions are very large. The grilled, octopus appetizer in olive oil and garlic, could be a main course. Their olives are incredible– a starter for about 2 euros. The 500 bus lets you out a hundred yards past the restaurant. It’s just after the port wine museum, along the river. The owner serves and speaks adequate English. There menu is translated into English. Prices are very low, quality is high and food is awesome.

Located about 15−20m walk from the main old town area, this restaurant is a friendly place to enjoy home-cooked style meals. The owner is quite fun and when there aren’t too many customers he is very attentive and playful. The food is fresh(try grilled seafood) and satisfying. The restaurant itself has a nice ambience and tables can be arranged to support large groups if requested in advance.

The location is a bit far for us since we stayed across the river and were quite exhausted by the time we arrived on foot. The owner was very nice to let us in earlier than the opening time. We had vegetable soup and mushroom soup for starter and they are both very good. The grilled sea bass with roasted garlic potatoes was excellent. The owner was so attentive to his first 2 customers, he kept coming to check how did we like the food. He was kind to offer to call a taxi for us to go back to our hotel at the end of the meal too. In summary, a restaurant with nice family atmosphere, good food and reasonable price.

Food is amazing! Home cooking. Great location. You know you will eat well when the«mom» is cooking and the«dad» is serving :) only reason why I don’t give this place 5 stars is because only«dad» was serving us and other tables therefore we had to wait a lot :( My dish(robalo grelhado) was perfect! Some would say a bit oily but that’s the point of Portuguese cosine ;)
