Some of the dishes were undoubtedly very good but the speed an quality of service was extremely slow. I ordered the chef special but it did not seem to get all of my dishes. Desert was pretty abysmal i.e. tasteless and grainy tasting. Asking for water and paying were extremely slow. Thumbs down

The food here was pretty good, and I might have given it 3 stars, but the service was terrible. While i do(greatly) enjoy a leisurely meal, this was at best, incompetence, at worst, purposeful neglect. When we arrived, the hostess was visibly annoyed that we didn’t have reservations, even though there were mutiple tables available and we were seated immediately. For our table of 4, 2 ordered a paella to share(and 2 appetizers), 1 ordered a set menu, and 1 ordered the chefs menu which was«a surprise». Dishes came to the table without explanation and placed in front of diners at random(not the person who necessarily ordered it), which led to us eating each others food by accident. This wasn’t so bad since we were going to share anyway, but was still a bit disconcerting. Even more so when we mentioned it, and the waitress rudley responded that it was hard to keep track when more than one person had a menu. The person who had the chefs menu wasn’t ever told how many courses he was supposed to get. He only had 5 courses(and paid more than the cost of the other set 5 course meal), so weren’t ever sure when his meal was done, if it was done, or if he actually got ripped off.(Note all his dishes were on the menu, so it wasn’t actually special). Dessert took over 30 minutes to come, and it was a lackluster, grainy custard with a half assed attempt at a bruleed top, and a raspberry purée with a hard chunk of cheese thrown in. There were only about 9 other tables, so I’m not sure how this dessert too so long. The fried egg with fries, smoke ham and truffle oil was great and the pork cheeks tender though.

Based on other reviews, we took a chance on this place and despite what other users are saying, we were actually very disappointed. As English speakers, we understand there are going to be some differences and difficulties with the language barrier. One of us speaks Spanish and can read a decent amount of Portuguese, so when it came to a fundamental understanding about the meal we ordered, we were disappointed in the resolution. At the end of the menu there is an option that reads like a tasting menu: «A journey of discovery at the hands of our chef: Everything made specially for you. Surprise yourself and indulge.» When we asked our waiter about it, he said«It’s a surprise! I don’t know what you’re going to get, you don’t — the chef decides and sends it out.» Sounds fun, right? Except when it’s just 5 from the«tapas we most enjoy to share.» That is not in fact something made«specially for you» — that’s made for everyone who goes into the restaurant and orders the most obvious things on the menu. It was painfully obvious after the second«surprise dish» that not only were we being served menu items, but in fact the cheapest and most generic of the bunch. By this point we were referring to this part of the«journey» as the one that had you get off at the wrong off-ramp and took you to T.G.I. Fridays. We brought this up again at the end of our meal, and we were told«that’s how it is — on the other menus it explains it in more detail» — but that’s not true, either. On the Portuguese menu, it still says«everything made specially for you. Surprise yourself!» So, that’s frustrating. As far as the quality goes… the food was edible, though totally uninteresting, poorly proportioned, weirdly over sauced and absolutely one to skip. Our filet steak with«Cabreles cheese sauce» was under«the best of the best» on the menu, but when the dish was served, we couldn’t see the meat under a sea of white liquid, and couldn’t cut it due to it’s toughness and the fact that it had been placed on a double portion of potatoes(even though the menu read: mushrooms). To add insult to an already«lost and confused» dish, it wasn’t even CHESESAUCE, it was drowning in ALFREDO. It’s unfortunate but each dish was a total miss. In recap we weren’t given water, finished our bottle of wine halfway through the meal, the bottle was carried away and we were never asked again about beverages. There were no descriptions of the food as our plates were being dropped off, which was odd, given we’re on «a journey» and we didn’t know a) how many plates were coming out, and b) what any of the items were. It’s good that we don’t have any allergies to food, but that seems like a great question to ask diners before serving them mystery dishes. Of the 5 tapas, 2 main courses, and 2 desserts we received, we got the name of maybe half the items, and nothing else. One dish, the Goat’s Cheese Parcels(and it says goat cheese on both the English & Portuguese menu) was made with brie, and one parcel still had the rind. There were no surprise in the flavors we were tasting… We could have listed the grocery store ingredients of each dish. The menu(and the waitstaff) made it seem like these were winning combinations of tapas, but they were all very basic and bland… the Patatas Bravas were topped with mayonnaise. To give this two stars, or as Unilocal would say«Meh. I’ve experienced better.» putting this too highly. There are amazing places to eat in Lisbon, ones worthy of their 4 and 5 star ratings on Unilocal. This is not one of them.

Took the recommendation of the filet and it did not disappoint. Setting was terrific. Made a reservation same day and they were ready for us early. Staff was very friendly and accommodating… Helped with the menu and was right in everything. Wife had white sangria which was great too. Good find out of the tourist zones and a notch above the rest.

Very good tapas, lovely wine recommendation. We enjoyed the pumpkin soup and the scallops on a bed of cauliflower. The croquettes and or partridge were both good but not fantastic.

This was the best Meal in Lisbon. The staff is warm and friendly. The décor is quaint, and the food is phenomenal. The goat cheese appetizer is excellent, and the fillet is probably the best steak I have ever had! All accommodated without a reservation. Don’t miss this gem!!!

Hands down the best meal I’ve had so far in Lisbon. Supreme location and ambience, incredibly knowledgeable staff, and absolutely amazing food. My friend and I split four tapas: goat cheese, scallops, fried egg tapa and patatas bravas– all excellent. We shared the the steak with mushrooms and cheese sauce as an entrée which was probably the best steak I’ve ever had. If you are in Lisbon, do NOT miss this restaurant.

As nervous first-time homebuyers, we were pretty nervous about how to operate a house. What does that red valve do? Can I touch that shiny wire? Will this catch on fire if I sneeze? If you’re in lisboa, Meson Andaluz is definitely a place to be! You can hit the place for a sophisticated glass of wine and some tasty tapas, or for a nice 3 courses dinner. located at Cais do sodre, nearby the center of lisboa, bairro alto, chiado and baixa are 10 min from there. very original terasse, on descending stairs in one of these typical lisboa streets. If you’re in a hurry for the food maybe this place isnt for you, but the taste worth the wait, trust me! The staff is very friendly and polite. The must have: their patatas bravas and the seared scallops on cauliflower purée(tapas), the hake streak and the saffran risotto is one of a kind! Cheers!

Nice but a bit pretentious and overprized. Some ingredients and plates are original but dont always work well together. Service is quick and polite.

This was our favourite restaurant while visiting Lisbon. The atmosphere is fantastic at the evening(we were eating outside by the stairs). We had 1L of sangria, dinner and desert for a cost of under 50 euros(2 persons). The food and desert was very tasteful. Would especially recommend this for couples looking for a romantic dinner in good environment.

Loved this place. Nice atmosphere. The wait staff was really great, attentive, and polite. I had the fillet steak with cabrales cheese over rosti and wild mushrooms with a glass of Rosé for dinner. It was absolutely delicious! For dessert, I had sweet potato cake with olive oil ice cream. I know! Those two things sound awful – sweet potato cake? Olive oil as ice cream? Doesn’t sound right. That’s why I got it. They were so good! If I ever get to come back to Lisbon, I will make it a point to come here.

The quality of the food was amazing to say the least. Everything was fresh and well cooked. The service very friendly and helpful. You can eat very well with wine, starters and dessert with just 25 € per person. I give the 4 stars because the outside door was broken and during the dinner was very uncomfortable to sit under a cold draft.

The food here is amazing. So amazing that my sister and I went two nights in a row. The service was a little slow because there were only a couple servers but overall, we had a great experience both nights. The fresh cod fillet was delicious.

Seriously Meson Andaluz was everything Unilocal cracked it up to be! In terms of service, we found some of the waiters to be wonderful and attentive while others to be a little more on the apathetic side. So for the food, you MUST order the piquillo pepper stuffed with cod and the tuna tartare cooked two ways with a red onion compote! If you eat ham, most definitely order the scallops with cauliflower purée(I was frustrated that it didn’t list the ham ingredient on the menu, as I don’t eat it). Finally for the entrée, please don’t miss the fillet with the cheese sauce over rosti and wild mushrooms. It was to DIEFOR and our waiter even split it on two plates for my girlfriend and I. Unfortunately bread isn’t included you must order separately and I’ve had better gambas de ajillo(I personally think it could have had a touch of more lemon and a dash of more salt). Overall wonderful meal and I loved being able to sit outside!

After a brief visit at Cais de Sodre we were looking around for a spanish/portoguse restaurant. This one popped up and after a 5 minute walk with the help of google maps we spotted this restaurant at a small authentic ally. The outdoor seating was relatively small and crowded which led us to take seats indoors. plesently surprised we found ourselves in a rather cozy but tight restaurant. We were greeted and briefly saying«Desculpa, fala inglis» he understood we were tourist trying to speak bits and pieces of portugese. We ordered water with various tapas including, extra large tortila, double baked tuna with red onion mash and some giant Gambas. After a reasonable wait with offered bread in between. the first two tapas arrived; the gambas were still sidering in oil and the tuna looked nicely dressed up with some greens lying on top of the onion mash. Both were delightfull and made from fresh product. After 5 minutes the tortila arrived which gave us enough time to finnish the previous dish but didnt keep us waiting for it. The tortilas gave a good fill and had a nice taste to it sweet. The service was outstanding. The waiter was polite, considerate and enthousiatic when we tryed out a couple of portugese sentences, when ordering or thanking. The location, decoration, food and service together make this a real reccomendation when you looking for a nice spannish /portugese diner.
