Loves the atmosphere and the food here. It is quite popular and we waited 15 minutes before getting a table. Dishes are tapa style and they recommend 2 dishes per person. I personally find the portion sizes to be very reasonable; we felt really full after 5 dishes between 2 people. The best dishes by far were: mushroom and asparagus, pork cheek, and the coffee cake. English speaking staff are very friendly overall very satisfied.

Offered us free appetizers and then charged us a huge service fee afterwards. Tourist trap!

I love this place instantly. There is a hands on feel in service and flavor we haven’t gotten anywhere else in Portugal. The small restaurant is packed but we are politely told in English we can wait at the bar or in the patio with drinks for a table to open. The menu is sofistocated flavors served in a simple manner and atmoshere. The service is 4 star! The moment the menu was explained in detail my mouth was watering. The size of the place allows for a real personal interaction. Trust the direction and helpfulness of the staff in ordering wine, portions and preference of flavors. This was my most loved meal in Losbon. Flavor explosion! Thoughtfully prepared small plates designed truely for sharing and not hording to thy self… though you will likely secretly desire to do so!

Da Prata 52 is a very nice place quite small but well run by a team of young guys who are really passionate about their job. It was by far one of the best meals in Lisboa. The place offers a selection of tapas to choose from, lots of drinks and a very friendly and personable atmosphere. Ask for recommendations as the waiters are very kind and will point out gems that maybe are not evident from a first reading of the menu!

The bustling Hugo took great care to explain the menu and wine options. I had the pork cheeks and garlic shrimp and thoroughly enjoyed both. Would recommend and would come again!

Came in around 10pm on a Saturday with a friend. We took one of two tables that were open. Service was slow to start as there was only one waiter for the whole place. He did his best and still managed to help describe the dishes to us and make recommendations. After we ordered, food came out quickly. We ordered the cod, blackened pork, duck and mushroom pastry. The duck was tender and full of flavor. Prices were very reasonable, around € 7 per plate. They suggest you order 2 plates per person which seemed like a good amount. Worth a try for modern spin on Portuguese food.

What a great place! I made some small research prior to going to Lisbon on some good places to eat close to the place where we were staying. We arrived to Lisbon on an extremely rainy evening and we were extremely happy that this place was just a short walking distance from our accommodation. The place doesn’t look great from outside. but dont be fooled by the appearance. the food and the service is great! There are just few tables in a restaurant and there is only one waiter/barman to take care of your drinks and food — Hugo:) Hugo will give you a good advice on what to eat and to drink, if you need any. It is more like a tapa place, which meant sharing around 3 – 4 dishes between two of us to start with. We ordered Pica Pau — delicious, Bread sausage — it was ok but not great, octopus — delicious, chorizo, some other beef and some local wine. When we asked for a good wine, Hugo just asked us how much we wanted to pay — 8 or 15 euro. we decided to go with 8 euro choice — what a delicious wine it was — Caiado — red wine, drank in traditional mugs. If you like a simply served, but very delicious, honest food, please go and visit this place, if you are more about ambiance and paying more for fancy food, then dont. it is your choice, but I can assure you that you will not regret it. We visited this place twice during our short trip and we had a great evening both times.

So, this place is a solid four-star restaurant cloaked in the guise of just another eatery off the touristy bit. Don’t let the proximity to «all food easily accessible and lamentable» fool you, this place is exceptional. The chasm between what they offer a few blocks away and da Prata 52, is gigantic. First off and most importantly, the food is excellent. Have the Mozambique Shrimp, which offers balanced hints of southern African spice dancing quixotically with just the right amount of char. The shrimp tempura I was also impressed by(solid 4.5 out of 5) and had a tremendous amount of attention paid to the accompanying sauce. The owner, Hugo, told me the secret recipe but I refuse to divulge his genius. I was quite impressed by the thought put into it. That said, I feel like it needed just a bit of extra sour or spice kick to put it over the top. The duck breast was excellent. A bit bathed in olive oil, but now I’m nit-picking. Delicious. And olive oil is good for the heart. The beef picanha was also perfect. Tender and red at the center, on a lithe strip of meat, but perfectly brown on the outside. The sangria is solid. Excellent sangria rests over night, but that involves inventory, which is a risk to a young business. Hugo made this on the spot and in complete candor it was a solid ad hoc sangria. The venue itself is unassuming, which I am fine with. If you’re looking for a place with amazing ambiance, you might want to search elsewhere, but often I find it is the places with great food and service that create exceptional ambiance. This is that place. It is a pleasant café. Narrow and humbly appointed at first, it offers arched brick vaulted ceiling, outdoor seating, and a communal orientation. I’ve saved the best for last. Hugo, as others have noted, is probably the most customer-oriented, friendly person I have ever met in eating around the world. He truly cares about the quality of the dishes he offers and takes pride in every dish. He runs the entire front of the house — on his own — and you would never know. There is never a moment when you are at a lack for a dish recommendation, help clearing your place, or friendly banter. There are unfortunately very few people — in the world — that take such personal accountability for the products they offer, but Hugo is one of them. I personally witnessed him give me great food recommendations, while offering other considerations for a customer with a wine she was less than satisfied by, while balancing a family table with kids. All the while, he doesn’t seem stressed or overwhelmed which makes this place seem inviting and cozy. You can get food that is 20% better for a 200% price increase. You can get ambiance that wows your date at a similar price differential. But if you love great food, put value in solid service, and love finding the hidden gems in a city, this is your place.
