Barracão de Alfama

Visited Lisbon back in February. Arrived in the city on a Tuesday, and interestingly enough, places tend to be closed on Tuesdays. Barracao de Alfama was one of the few restaurants opened then, and so I decided to go get dinner there.
The waiter didn’t speak English (and I don’t know Portuguese), but in a *rather hilarious* exchange, I managed to order a bacalhau (cod) with beer. Was served an entire fish with some potatoes, and it was pretty good: tender, albeit overly salty, but otherwise a solid dish. Service was pleasant, too, and I left the restaurant satisfied. Give it a shot!

The octopus salad was just right. It was a simple recipe. Perfectly tender octopus with some cilantro, onion, olive oil, and salt.
I had the fish, shrimp, and clams with rice. This dish kind of reminded me of Chinese congee. The rice wasn’t porridge-​like as congee is, but it was more like a hearty soup with rice and seafood. I enjoyed it very much. Lots of fish, partially peeled shrimp with the heads on (if you don’t eat the shrimp heads, you’re totally missing out), and clams still in their shells. It was served in a pot with a lid, and tada! Lift the lid to reveal your delicious meal!
My husband ordered the grilled meat plate with pineapple. He thought it was alright but found the meat somewhat overcooked. This could be a cultural preference? I’m not sure. There was lamb, pork, steak, and half of a blood sausage. It came with a separate plate of couscous and roasted potatoes.
The service was excellent. Our server spoke English, was friendly, and showed us a good sense of humour. What a nice guy!

Restaurante gerido por uma família bastante atenciosa com os clientes. Comida caseira e feira na hora. Preço acessível.

Dentro da oferta das redondezas acho que este é o melhor restaurante da zona em termos de relação qualidade preço. Fica a dois minutos do Museu do Fado e no coração de Alfama.
A decoração é a decoração que se espera de um restaurante português antigo, o serviço é atencioso e a comida de qualidade. Costumava ir lá com frequência comer os Bifinhos com cogumelos e batatas fritas e também cheguei a comer a grelhada com legumes. Tudo feito na hora e de qualidade.
