Chicken tikka Marsala, Lamb Curry, Garlic Nan! The outside seating was also very nice. Got to see the world stroll by as we ate lunch.

Fantastic Indian food! Planned on having local cuisine, but the aroma emanating from this restaurant was too hard to resist. By the timec we circled back, it was packed. And no wonder! The service was great, they worked hard to accommodate our large group(7 plus 2 infants). Very cosy atmosphere inside and lovely terrace. We had three nans and two appetizers, lamb Korma, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, a biryani and a spicy beef dish I’ve never had before. Everything was very yummy.

I went to Estoril for a week with my parents, which is about a 20mins walk to Cacais town which has the better selection of restaurants. We looked Masala restaurant so much we went there 3⁄7 nights for our dinner. The first night we arrived we had to wait in a queue for a table, but it was defiantly worth the wait. The waiters were so pleasant and friendly and were great at helping us in what to order or help with any of the dishes we were unsure about. I ordered Chicken Jalfrezi as I prefer a more spicier dish and it was delicious you could even share this dish as it is a big enough portion. My parents ordered Chicken Tika Masala and Madras curry these were more on the milder side but still gorgeous. We then got the boiled rice and cumin rice to share between the three of us and a garlic naan bread(which is huge more than enough for 3 people). Prices are also very reasonable and would recommend getting a table inside if you can as at night it can be quiet windy out on the streets.

The restaurant is really dark inside and an intensive incense smell(doesn’t open you appetite) outside gets quite windy in the evening(must be OK for lunch, I suppose)… The service was good and friendly. They recommended good drinks and dishes and also told us of things we would not like from the menu which I though it was really honest! Definitely value for money! The portions are quite big and you can actually share one main course dish per couple(with rice and bread). Definitely worth visiting!

Muito bom. Merece a pena ir comer a este restaurante. De salientar a famosa sopa tailandesa«Tom Yum, não esquecendo diversas outras iguarias Thai e não só. Não percam!

Every time I have Indian food it’s always the tandoori chicken breasts on the sizzling hot plate. Got that dish here. It was horrible. Chicken tasted chewy and that lingering flavor that the chicken had been in the freezer for way too long. Had high expectations since there were really good reviews. Maybe I just got the wrong dish, but the one star reflects the tandoori chicken breasts. Service and naan were good though. Don’t let my 1 star deter you from trying it. Check it out and decide for yourself.

My wife and I ventured over to Cascais the other day for a bit of beach time and to possibly check out a bit of the NoS Air Race that was going on in the harbor that day. After a few beers and some beach time, we decided to get a bite while in Cascais instead of waiting until after we got back to the Alfama area via train. As I am obsessed with Unilocal,I found Masala and was stunned that a small Indian joint in Cascais Portugal boasted 5 stars. We just learned what really good Indian food was like recently at a joint in Boulder, CO and we couldn’t resist. In times like this, thank god for Unilocal.A lot of crappy food is out there, Masala did not disappoint. It lived up to it’s Unilocal reputation. They bring over a small offering of three dips and two pieces of flat bread that were fresh and nicely prepared. A mango sauce, a mint sauce, and another jam of some sort that was nice as well. Only complaint was that we ran out of flat bread with a bunch of the small dips each remaining. For dinner, we ordered one of the cheese/garlic naan offerings, lamb curry, and an order of saag paneer. In addition, we split a bottle of the house vinho tinto(red wine). We had them bring everything together so that we could use the naan with our dishes. The lamb curry was really delicious as the sauce was amazing. The lamb was cooked nicely. Some of the larger pieces of lamb could have braised for a touch longer, but I am picky like that =). The saag paneer was insanely good. The texture was admirable and the flavors were perfect. We were stunned. We are accustomed to an american version of this recipe using tofu, but the real Indian cheese component was perfect. The naan was out of this world as well, which provided for a wonderful medium to slurp up all of the sauce we had left over. The two dishes came in small dishes with a tea light under them to keep them warm as we ate. Perfect. As other Unilocalers have mentioned, the service was indeed a bit slower than desired, but did not detract from the amazing food we experienced. As we have spent little time in Portugal thus far, we couldn’t believe the food we were eating! The atmosphere at Masala is very nice. The design is great, well kept, and super clean. The tables are packed in there, but for good reason. All in all, If we lived near this place, we would be there all of the time. It was a bit pricier than we are accustomed to, however, I would gladly pay for the same food/wine/atmosphere any day, any time! It is also in a touristy area so it is a bit understandable. Thank you Masala for the wonderful experience!

We went here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised to have everything be 20% off. The service was good, not slow at all, and the food was great! The rice and naan cost extra, but you could easily share just one between two people. We had kofta dumplings and butter prawns, both very sweet curries. The sauces in the on-the-house starter were also fantastic. The presentation and atmosphere were also admirable. Five stars.

I felt a bit bad coming on holiday and then going for an Indian, both because I thought I should be eating local food and because I wasn’t sure that Indian cuisine on the continent would be as developed as it is in the UK. I dealt with the first concern myself we were in Portugal for 8 days and there would be plenty of time for sampling the local cuisine, and this restaurant dealt with my second concern. The food was excellent, probably better than most high street Indian places in the UK. We had a variety of dishes and I couldn’t fault any of them. The service was slightly slow but friendly, and we met the owner at the end, who was a good guy.
