Another great event hosted by our lovely Community Manager! The one thing I have to say about this event was the incredible, almost overwhelming generosity of Między Bułkami. They really threw the full weight of their heart, soul, and marketing tactics behind their effor to host us. They reserved the entire top floor of the restaurant for our party, and set the tables with a spread of sauces, bread, juices, wine and cyder chilled in buckets of ice. The effort they put into decorating the tables was immense. They printed off the profile photos of every person who had attended and stuck them into onions to act as nametag/place settings, and the onions served as the basis for many grand jokes later in the evening. Then they slowly started to bring out the food… first a beef tartar starter(my favorite), followed by cauliflower soup, and then three THREE burgers. Not one, not two — THREE. How did they expect us to eat all three burgers? No one ate the third. No one was capable of eating a third. We all ate the first thinking that was going to be the extent of things, and when we got the second we ate as much as we could of the tasty parts, and when we heard about the third we all moaned and held our stomachs and begged for mercy. Spicy bacon they said. UHRHRRR. We replied. So instead they brought out pie. Whole apple and plum pies — one for about every four people. Food overdose. Of course the idea was to get us to sample as many of their different kinds of burgers as possible, classic — blue cheese — spicy bacon, that’s a good sampling, but even though they made smaller versions of the burgers for our sampling pleasure, they were still at least the size of a McDonald’s cheesburger and three times as thick… so it was a lot of food. In between dishes, Między Bułkami’s marketing spokesperson gave a speach about the brand’s identity — essentially he admitted that he knew that Między Bułkami had entered a market saturated with burger fat. Thus the owners had made the decision to leave«burger» out of the restaurant’s name in order to distinguish themselves from Bobby Burger, Barn Burger, Pan Burger, Burger King, Burger Burger Burger and BURGER!!! — ok the last two aren’t real restaurant names but you get the idea. He also said that the theme«homemade taste» also differentiated the brand. Thus homemade sauces, soups, and buns — the buns he admitted were from a very well known bakery in Warsaw ran by the owner’s father. In the end, he said that Między Bułkami’s quality, product, and concept would stand the test of time and remain long after the burger frenzy finally died out. After the second burger, we were given a quiz about the restaurant and the winner got a prize — a 100 zlty gift certificate. Not bad. Before we left everyone was given parting gifts of a mug with the Między Bułkami logo printed on the side and stickers. Like I said, their generosity was almost over the top. The girls who had taken care of the party were extremely nice and pleasant. They joked with us, made sure the beverages were replaced constantly, and were extremely thoughtful about removing and replacing dishes on the table. They were also considerate toward the vegetarians in the group, bringing them a different alternative to every meat dish that was served. I found this rather impressive. Very pretty, sweet, nice girls. We were all very greatful for the level of service. It was a very successful event. I think this is the essence of what a Unilocal event is supposed to engender from the bussiness perspective — get us in, help us to understand the brand concept, stuff us full of free samples, and release us back into the world. I didn’t necessarily feel like we were being pandered too, just that Między Bułkami very much understood the potential of the investmet they were making. In the end, it was fun getting together with Unilocal friends and sharing food and society, trying a new place I wouldn’t have necessarily have chosen for myself, and trying food I may not have ordered on my own. Thanks again to our Community Manager for another superb event!
