My friends and I dined at Vespa bar on a recent Friday night. I was very pleased to see they take bookings for small groups as it seems many places these days won’t which can be frustrating when trying to plan a night out with some certainty. Vespa bar has a great location on high street at the centre of the small hospitality district that has sprung up here. One end opens up into a shared courtyard with several other bars so there is a friendly and convivial atmosphere. The bar itself if quite narrow and on the smaller side with just one row of high tables opposite the bar and a couple of larger tables at either end. Drinks were very good. They have a small/moderate sized cocktail list and the cocktails are delicious and strong. My favourite on their menu is the Moscow mule but they will also make cocktails off menu if you ask nicely! Personal recommendation: the south side. It’s delicious. The menu is mainly a tapas menu with a bit of a South American /Mexican flare. We decided we couldn’t choose and ended up making the decadent decision of getting one of everything on menu. Food is yummy, and very easy to share. Portions are a decent size for tapas. Our favourites were the salmon, prawn and chorizo, pulled pork burger, and whitefish taco. In the end we simply couldn’t finish every dish between 5 of us so I’d recommend an approach where you order a couple of dishes at a time until full. That way you can also order a particular dish again it it was a favourite. Unfortunately the menu on the website isn’t uptodate which is annoying if you are already anticipating certain items. Service was ok. Orders were taken from the table as we were seated but after that as it got busier it was a bit haphazard. We could be sitting with empty glasses for quite some time before braving the crowd at the bar to get another round Would I come back? Yes, definitely.
