I have been to this store but I generally go to the branch in Te Atatu if I want a few cold beers on a hot summer day. I am always intriuged the way the beer has its own cool room in New Zealand — where I come from it’s merely in a fridge. Going into the cool room always gives me a little thrill… and a chill. I must say there isn’t a great selection of beer in this place compared to some of the places in the city. The choices are all the usual suspects and I guess are aimed at Westies and their unsophisticated tastes. Mind you, I did find they stocked my favourite drink at the moment — Rekorderlig cider. This is a sweet strawberry cider from Sweden and finding it in West Auckland was a big surprise. Apart from this though, there’s not much more to West Liquour and its choice of booze is dull and predictable.

Oh how is this place has changed. What used to be the place scumbag westies went to to hang out in the car park and buy a dozen beers or Woodstocks, West Liquor Glen Eden is now a recently renovated fancy little liquor shop in the heart of Glen Eden. You’ll probably still get quite a few youths asking you to buy them some smokes, but probably not as many as a couple years ago. They’ve got plenty of stock as well as their new fancy crafts beers, worth a look if you haven’t been for a while. Plenty of parking out front and friendly staff, and the place is nice and clean and well laid out.

This used to be a place I would just pop into on my way home from work to pick up a box of something cheap and nasty. They recently renovated, and oddly enough, the atmosphere of a liquor store is enough to (partially) change my drinking habits.
Probably the best addition to the store is their «craft beer on tap» station. You buy a reusable glass bottle, then can refill it as many times as you want with a constantly changing variety of largely New Zealand craft beers. It’s like a fancy swappa crate.
