I often come in here to kill time before classes and grab a bite to eat. I think the selection of food is pretty good and there’s always something to excite me. Sometimes it’s the muesli and yoghurt combo tubs, a sausage roll if I’m feeling slobby, or a nice filled roll. I had a roll last time I came and I enjoyed it but thought the roll to filling ratio was a bit off. Next time I’ll look for one with more guts to it I think. Besides the food, the staff are very friendly and charismatic. I have a soft spot for them ever since a scary day last year when I left my laptop outside the café. I hadn’t realised and was already on my way home when I got a phone call to say my laptop was there waiting to be picked up! To this day I still don’t know how they got my cellphone number! They said it was in my facebook settings and my facebook was left open but I’ve had a look and I just can’t find it! Oh well who really cares! I got my laptop back and I can’t complain about that!

The Counter is the café in the Business and Law building at AUT. After a year of being surrounded by loud construction, it is now part of an amazing relaxing common space between the WF and WG buildings. I come here to meet my friends before classes. We stock up on coffees, drinks and snacks. Sometimes they have protein drinks available as well! The food is pretty good too — I’m always amazed at the different options each day. For about $ 5 you can get a noodle box filled with whatever today’s salad is — and it’s always very substantial. The other day it was cous cous and roast vegetable. Yum! They also make wedges and fried rice and things, as well as heaps of yummy paninis and muffins. There’s also non-branded bottles of water for $ 2.

Located on the ground floor of the business school, The Counter is one of the cafes at AUT. This café is different from the others because it is a licensed, yes students you can enjoy a cider during your break. To be honest I haven’t had a drink at The Counter, I only recently found out they sold alcohol when I saw a few fellas sipping on some ciders. This for me was rather hilarious but that’s a story for another day! The Counter serves cheap meals, fish and chips for $ 13.50, super wedges with bacon, sour cream and cheese for $ 7.00. I haven’t tried any of the food as yet but those prices sure are enticing. What I have tried at The Counter is the coffee. The hot chocolate is always frothy and creamy, the chai latte sweet and strong and the ice chocolate perfect. The prices for the coffees are standard so nothing special there.
