Purchased a Pre-ordered lipstick from MAC cosmetics called ‘Candy Yum-Yum’ @Smith &Caughey. The counter staff were friendly, helpful and personable! Definitely improved since my last visit:)

Not cheap but this is where you can find the top brand of makeup. Not as big as the Queen St one either but I love coming here!

Smith and Caughey’s Newmarket is certainly the baby of the Queen Street store — it has none of the same historic vibe and nothing like the same floor space or range. Surprisingly though, I hear from a reliable source that it sells a tonne more than its CBD counterpart. The reason being that wealthy ladies are often checking out the other expensive shops in Newmarket anyway, and so like to pop in, whereas if they shop Queen Street they only have the Smith and Caughey’s option — unless they want to trudge down to Gucci and Louis Vuitton all the way down the other end of the street. And that’s quite a trek with high heels and dodgy hips. I think of the Newmarket Smith and Caughey’s an extended beauty counter really, and apart from sale time(when they have some excellent bargains) I rarely visit.

Smith & Caughey’s in Newmarket is the baby version of the one in the CBD. It’s like, 1⁄5th of the size but it’s still got a lot of what they do in the Queen Street flagship store. It’s a big old department store. An upmarket one. If you’re looking for a fragrance or makeup or something, this is a good place to go. There’s MAC and Bobbi Brown and Chanel and Shiseido etc. There’s more womenswear than there is men’s. My favourite sections are the underwear sections(they do Calvin Klein underwear — men’s and womens) and those beauty counters. My mom loves Smith & Caughey’s. I don’t know exactly what this means but she has enough of an expendable income to shop there. Especially at sale time. The Newmarket store now has some of the new younger fashion brands in store(like they do in the city) — including Twenty-Seven Names, Karen Walker and Stolen Girlfriend’s Club, so if you’re looking for those brands, it’s a good option, especially if you’ve looked elsewhere for certain pieces and can’t find them.

Meh, this Smith and Caughey’s isn’t as nice as the one in the city. The one in the city is beautiful but this one just isn’t the same. I do enjoy walking through here for a browse on a shopping day but everything is so expensive I don’t make the commitment to purchase anything. One of the things that does bother me is that on quiet days you will literally get hassles by the shop attendants. It’s like they’ve X-Rayed your wallet and know you won’t buy anything. That’s why it’s quite good to go there when they’ve got a sale on, much lower prices and no one hassling you. But you do have to get in quick because those sales attract everyone in the surrounding suburbs!
