If you’re looking to stay close to the SkyCity tower (which is also a major chartered bus pick-​up i.e. Intercity, Great Sights), I recommend staying at Rydges Auckland. Also relatively close to Britomart, Duty Free Galleria, and many highly rated eateries. Convenience store around the corner.
As far as the hotel itself, there is a café and restaurant in the hotel. Hotel staff will help you to book activities, taxi, provide recommendations. Luggage storage available. Free newspaper. Dependable, free WiFi. Rooms are spacious, you can request a rollaway bed for free, and I appreciated the large shower size.

Wrapping up our last night at Rydges, but not before leaving some well-​deserved kudos. We definitely enjoyed everything about our stay here. Thanks to Rydges’ prime location, we were able to explore all that downtown Auckland has to offer — tons of shops, eateries, and even tourist attractions like Sky Tower and the pier with ferries to Rangitoto and Waiheke were all just a 5−10min walk away.
The hotel itself has a modern look to it, clean, and was comfortable to stay in. Be warned that parking may be an issue, but they provide valet for ~$ 30/​night if you’re interested. After driving around this busy, bustling block so many times looking for parking while trying to avoid running down pedestrians at the same time, my husband was more than happy to go the valet route. Staff was great and responsive; they always had the car ready for us within minutes of us requesting it.
Other notes:
* Get a $ 10 coupon for their restaurant, The Cut, for each day you go green & forgo housekeeping
* In addition to the typical toiletries provided, you also get make-​up removing wipes
* Showers are standing glass showers — with no door or shower curtain. Yep, you heard right. Not sure if this is a Rydges thing or just a general NZ thing, but that was interesting. Then again, we *are* on our honeymoon so I suppose it’s appropriate…

My first time here in the very pretty Auckland, and chose to stay at the Rydges. It’s a hop, skip and downhill slide to the centre of the CBD, pretty much everything is in walking distance
The staff are very courteous, the room clean, tidy and well maintained. All the mod cons (yes including WiFi) is included.

Great location. Very clean and updated rooms. Friendly staff and we had a nice breakfast. The gym has a couple treadmills, rower and bike, no weights and a very old weight machine.
Try the Indian restaurant across the street named Handi
I didnt see a review for it but it was fairly priced and excellent food and décor.

food at the swanky hotel restaurant «the cut» is so good and the $ 10 voucher they provide for ‘going green’ is a bonus! i could eat here everyday!
firm bed, walkin shower, hot kettle and milk for tea… major comfort points.
the gym appears to be an empty room with workout equipment and you’ll find its just enough… no pool :(
its a great spot if your looking for a no fuss, quality space to lay down your weary body.

Perfect location in the CBD right next to the Auckland Skytower. Walking distance to thousands of restaurants, the Viaduct waterfront complex, Britomart and 2 blocks off Queen Street (main road).
The hotel is modern feeling enough without going overboard with the loud music and flashing lights some hotels have in the lobby. Staff is great, from front drive to concierge to front desk and room attendants. Everyone smiles and is there to assist.
Room was perfectly comfortable. Spacious and just the right size. A small sitting area with couch and chair, king sized bed with tons of pillows and an adequate bathroom with stand up shower only. Honestly, who really takes baths in hotel rooms anymore? The vanity is small, but workable if you put all the crap on the shelf below. Rooms come with free coffee and a mini-​fridge to run next door to the market at grab some essentials.
With free Wi-​Fi in all areas, you can get what you need done.
Didn’t use dining facilities or room service, so no comment.

Nice hotel in great location. Restaurants and bars nearby. Nice and clean rooms. Nice views and good beds. Concierge is a really nice guy and the staff is friendly and very helpful. One star off for the guy at checkin pushing the hotel restaurant on us after we continued to ask him about other restaurants in the area and for a response from the woman at the cash register for breakfast and the cost of breakfast, $ 23 if I remember correctly for basic continental breakfast.

I’ve stayed here many times, it almost seems like it’s my second home! Highly recommend this hotel if ever you visit Auckland, New Zealand. Located just one block away from the famous Aukland Sky Tower, right in the heart of town. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean & updated, free internet, and they also have great food at STK restaurant. It’s also convenient to many local attractions…

Rydges was a pleasant surprise: airy, light rooms, which make them seem bigger than they are (not that the rooms are small, just not especially big).* I was expecting slightly un-​cared for chain hotel, but the rooms were immaculately clean and well maintained.
Of course it’s a great location if you’re heading out to sample Auckland’s nightlife: skip the casino up the road and just do a cruise of all the restaurants and bars nearby.
They often have specials here: we got our room on a «mystery room» deal for $ 120, which seemed more than reasonable. They have carparks available next door for a nominal fee — from memory about $ 10.
*We were facing onto Federal Street, I suspect the ones looking onto Kingston Street are less light-​filled.

I have stayed at the Rydges Hotel twice and both times I have been amazed by the wonderful service I have received by staff members at the front desk and at the restaurant. The first time I stayed at the Rydges was for a girl’s night out, when I checked in I headed upstairs and kicked back only to realize that I did not pack my charger. I called reception and asked them if they could help me out. Unfortunately they did not have an iPhone charger but they did have an iPad connection which they allowed me to use to charge my phone.
On the second occasion I ordered food at a restaurant on Symonds Street and forgot to get the takeaway forks and knives. When I got back to the hotel I called reception and they were more than happy to bring up plates, forks and knives to the room. All I had to do after using the utensils was put them on the tray provided and leave it outside to be picked up.
