Stockists of everything Sci Fi and Movie /TV related from Graphic Novels to Action figures, statues and framed prints, everything to satisfy the inner child and geek in you!

It is run by the team who runs the New Zealand Dr Who Fan Club, so the sale team has a real passion for what they do.

The Retrospace shop is located at 22 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna, Auckland. Open seven days, 10am to 5pm each day. The shop is located next door to Paper Plus.

History

Established in 2008.

Started from out of the garage and created out of the Doctor Who Fan Club 25 years ago, Retrospace has growen to the point where we have just moved from our old store at 112 Hurstmere Road to a store 3 times the size in October 2013, next to Paper Plus.

My girlfriend is a wonderful contradiction in terms — she’s the ubiquitous blonde in some ways (pretty, loves shoes, nail polish and pampering etc)…and she’s also a TREKKIE! What’s more, her whole family are nerds too, with a particular love for Star Trek and Dr Who. Over the course of the relationship, she’s made me into a bit of a nerd too. So imagine my delight on discovering this little store on Hurstmere Road! It has a life-size dalek in the doorway — nuff said. I don’t know whether it yells out «EXTERMINATE!!», but there is a bit of paper attached to it with a link to a website where you too can build your own. I think I will. Anyway, dalek obsession aside, this place has everything collectible your inner nerd could possibly want — it’s a bit pricey, but hey it’s collectible. Awesome awesome awesome!

I’ve always considered myself a bit of a nerd but I didn’t realise how utterly nerdy I truley was until I walked into this place. I don’t know why it brings me so much joy to see merchandise which gives reference to things I have seen in movies, TV episodes, or games. When I see a figurine of some character I know from something else I have to point it out to whoever I’m with in a stolked fashion. As much as I like the merchandise here I can’t help but feel it is a tad overpriced. Over $ 600 for a plastic Han Solo figurine? I realise that it is probably a limited edition collectors blah blah blah, but it is only a little thing made from plastic. Sorry Han, but I don’t think I’ll ever be nerdy enough to take you home.

The best nerd shop in Auckland! Retrospace is on par with the best websites in New Zealand to sate your secret nerdy desires, but they now have a physical store where you can get your calloused XBOX thumbs and square eyes all over the merchandise without having to wait or without leaving a credit card trail your significant other could follow.
The «significant other of a nerd» may sound like a contradiction but this is the 21^st Century. BBC sci-fi like Dr Who, TV series remakes like BSG and books turned into series, like Game of Thrones, are all becoming that little bit more mainstream than they used to be. That means posters, novelty toys, die-cast figures, fan fiction, knickknacks and thingamajigs and flummery– most of these can be found here.
Staff also stay up to date with events like Armageddon Expo and gaming events in the Auckland Area. A great place for gifts– or a least that’s what you can tell your self when you’re in there.
(They have a life-sized Dalek in-store).

The Television show ‘The Big Bang theory’ has almost made comic books and sci fi collectibles cool again, I said almost okay! This awesome little shop located in Takapuna is bringing it back for the nerds man!
Whenever my little brothers birthday rolls around again, I begin to panic, he is without doubt the hardest person to buy for, but this shop makes it easy for me.
They have almost everything you could ever want in a hobby shop, collectibles, DVD sets, plush– stuffed animals, posters– the list goes on. This year I opted for the ‘Firefly’ DVD box set, and also brought one for myself while I was there, and the present was met with raucous applause. I did good for once!
Online shopping is also available for your convenience, but it’s worth it if you can actually make it into the store itself because the people who work there are just so knowledgable and really excited to help you be able to track down that (nerdy) hearts desire of yours.
