Beautiful course set in one of Auckland’s nicer suburbs. Parkland style with a lot of trees, houses and evil greens and bunkers. The clubrooms are nice and the bar well equipped — perfectly serviceable pro shop and generally a well– heeled demographic.

One of the more exclusive courses in Auckland, Remuera Golf Club is a great course and very enjoyable — if you play straight. We played one Friday afternoon and managed to negotiate a deal with the staff member for 9 holes for $ 30(a bargain considering the usual price of the course — usually $ 120 for a full round for a non-affiliate. This was well worth it, with the course being immaculate — the greens slightly fast, and testing, but the whole experience made us willing to return and pay full price next time. My brother was previously a junior member at the club and there were great coaching programmes in place with tuition and junior member fees drastically cheaper and a superb way to become involved in the club, if any 10 year olds are reading this. The club is quite a tight-knit community with a solid social scene. The twilight golf competition and comes highly recommended, a great way to unwind(or get wound up) after work, depending on how you want to play it.

I play most of my golf on the North Shore, and maybe I’m not doing myself any favours by playing on lesser courses, but I actually have a warm place in my heart for courses like Takapuna and Peninsula. While golf is golf, and one course is the same as the next — in theory, there is a big difference when playing a top course. And Remuera is a top golf course. I played there with my brother, and normally my scrambling skills will give me the edge over him, but Remuera is just a little tighter, and longer, so there was no place to hide. I loved the experience, but I got myself into too much trouble early on, and the rest is history. I found the course very expensive for guests, and possibly not worth the monetary outlay, so I won’t play it too often, but I loved the test the course offered, and once I’ve corrected my hook — then, and only then will I return.
