I first went to Modes in year 12 when a few friends and myself were looking for something for the ball. We decided that it was a good idea to check out most of the boutiques in Newmarket to find something a little bit sexy but nice. After walking around for a bit we walked into Modes and went to the ball gown section. I was in love with some amazing dresses. The retail assistant was so lovely he helped my friends and I try on the dresses and suggested a few different cuts for our shapes. It is a bit on the expensive side but if you are looking for something special then Modes is the place to go. I wasn’t about to pay so much for a year 12 school ball but after a few years this place is were I go to when I have to attend the boyfriend’s endless work corporate balls.

I needed something a little bit chick for a flashy big event and made a special trip into the city, Newmarket to be exact, to browse the racks of this high fashion store.
Modes specialize in beautiful gowns for women of all ages and I must comment on their extremely large selection of not only dresses but styles. The store itself is gigantic with different levels determining different themes such as black tie, wedding, ballwear.
Let’s say you wanted to stand out from the crowd on Race Day, here’s where you can get the frock, the fascinator, the bling and the bag to make a lasting impression. Same goes for Mother of the Bride.
But who really needs an excuse to be belle of the ball, head to Modes and indulge in a lot of luxurious frock shopping. Take a friend and make it an occasion with lunch afterwards.

Through my high school years, this was the first go-​to for ball dresses. There’s a pretty huge variety of dresses in all sorts of different styles and shapes and sizes. This is why it’s such a good place to start. You can really get an idea for what kind of thing you would want, what looks good on you and what options are out there.
I never actually bought a dress from here. My body shape is a bit tricky and so nothing really looked that spectacular on me. Plus the dresses were quite expensive and so I never wanted to spend that much money on something that didn’t make me look absolutely amazing.
I know lots of girls who did get their dresses from here though. And a lot of them were gorgeous.

Famous for their amazing collection of ball wear, wedding gowns and related attire and race day wear and formal accessories, Modes’ stock is nothing short of beautiful.
The first time we went there, my friend and I spent about two hours flicking through the racks of options and having a great time trying our favourites on. Modes has something for everyone regardless of whether you are a girly-​girl or a little more funky — I’ve never heard of anyone not finding something they liked in this store.
The staff at Modes are fabulous. They know their stock really well and are great at helping you find the right style dress for not only your personality and style, but also your body shape. These girls know what they’re doing!
The only drawback of an otherwise flawless store is the price. Nothing in Modes is cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for here. All the garments are made from quality fabric, with many of the dresses incorporating hand-​sewing and embroidery, it’s no wonder they’re pricey.
Tip: Though pretty expensive, Modes does have great sales. If you’re organised it’s worth keeping an eye out for these sales — you might be able to score your outfit at half price!
