A Little disappointed by the restaurant as I thought it would have been authentic Malaysian and Chinese food, but it was more of a fusion Asian. But never the less the food was quite good! A little pricey for the quantity. We didn’t get that great service and I felt as if we were being ignored a lot. Throughly enjoyed the restaurant theme and deco was nice :) would come again

Had lunch here with my husband for our 8th anniversary the food here is lovely I’ve tried the rendang beef curry and noodles in the Queenstown branch but have decided to try the chicken and rice here and the chicken hawker rolls. The rolls are to die for, prawn dumplings are ok but we were disappointed with the chicken and rice, I know it’s traditional but to me it was boring and not fusion or modernised at all, the chicken had the skin on which was rubbery(as it was poached) and it was like home made food so that is the only thing I’d take a point off for. Service was great and the staff took on my criticism really well which impressed me so I still left happy even though I didn’t enjoy my main. I highly recommend the hawker rolls, noodles, curry and the laksa soup.

After a much anticipated wait, Madam Woo has opened it’s doors in Takapuna! Having dined at their Queenstown location I had high expectations, which were happily met. The hawker roll was just how I remembered — flakey, buttery roti filled with fresh herbs, chilli and succulent, sticky pork(there’s other flavours too). The tiger prawn dumplings were tightly packed with a generous amount of perfectly cooked prawn meat but the standout was the duck and cabbage salad with roasted hazelnuts and a zesty lime dressing. It’s $ 18 but the serving is generous, perfect for sharing. Madam Woo has just opened so as it to be expected there are still a few minor wrinkles in the service need ironing out. For example, after the mains our table and the table next door took an eternity to be cleared. I had let the waiter know at the beginning of the service that my dining companion needed to catch a flight and we wanted to order a Vietnamese coffee to finish but the waiter, or any waiter for the matter, was nowhere to be seen! I should point out here that it was also a quiet Monday lunch, not a raging Friday night. The only other small glitch was that glasses that the Vietnamese coffee comes in are to hot to handle on arrival. My companion and I ended up unfolding our napkins and wrapping them around them, which totally worked but would be great to either have a word of warning or a pre-rolled napkin scenario. As I said, minor, minor issues that I am sure will be sorted out over time. Considering how they’ve just opened and how busy they’ve been, they are absolutely nailing it in my book! One last thing… this venue is much bigger than their Queenstown locations with plenty of big, long tables so if you’re looking for a restaurant to dine at with a group this would be perfect — just make sure you book!

As good as the best in Istanbul or LA for modern Asian dining. Check out the menu — exquisite flavours that explode in your mouth. Great ambience and genuine warm friendly service. No need to go on — Madam Woo is well worth a visit and Takapuna is all the better for her arrival.

I’ve been anticipating the opening of Madam Woo in Taka for ages, and quickly made a lunch booking. They’ve done a great job styling wise, love the artwork, eclectic mix of tables and comfy bench seating along one wall. It’s a large light-filled space, but where we were sitting it didn’t feel exposed. I will talk about the food first because I only have good things to say. We had the chicken skewers with satay sauce and pickled cucumber, chicken roti hawker, pork belly, duck with cabbage and sides of rice and roti. A nice mix of fresh, spicy and crispy. Lots of bold chilli hits along the way. The roti was delicious and I really liked the pickled cucumber that came with the skewers. For dessert, we devoured a bowl of housemade coconut and mango icecream, I meant to try the Vietnamese coffee, but I have plans for a revisit so I’ll try it then. Now, my comments on service are not so glowing. On arrival at 11.50am for a 12pm booking, we were asked to walk around for another 10 minutes because the chef didn’t want anyone seated before 12. Not even at the bar. It was a bitterly cold day and I guess we were a bit stunned that on its third day of opening they weren’t a bit more welcoming, after all it was only 10 minutes. The staff are feeling their way service wise, and menu knowledge will come in time. Another first — our table and three others had a direct view into the loo. Seemed almost everyone that used it left the door open, a screen would easily solve this. Having said that, we had an enjoyable lunch. When we left an hour and a half later, the staff were turning away customers. Not because the place was full, there were empty tables, they just weren’t taking anymore customers! I left shaking my head again, the sign on the door said open from 12pm til late… I’d be interested to know if anyone else has the same experience.

Having heard about this amazing restaurant in Queenstown, we decided to go check out what the hype was. The favourite of the night was definitely Chicken Roti Hawker, flavours were spot on and the roti was crispy. The pork one was a disappointment, drenched in sauce while it’s condiments were overly sweet. Other dishes(braised tofu, pork belly, fish curry and satays) didn’t really stand out. We tried four of the dessert items on the menu. Chili black sesame ice cream, surprisingly I really liked this. You get hit with the black sesame taste making you think this is ordinary but as the ice cream melt the chili seeps through and you’re left with the hotness. The other dessert I enjoyed was Lemon grass«mousse”(read pana cotta) it was refreshing and the goji berries were juicy, a nice end to the meal. Overall service was great, great atmosphere and would probably come back just for roti or chicken roti hawkers –they were pretty amazing.
