Flowers, flowers, flowers.
Trickily named a ‘fruiterer’ (which is a really fantastic word you have to admit, so why not?), Jairam’s is really a dairy. It has all the stuff you’d expect to find in a dairy, and a bit more, as well as buckets of flowers out the front that seem to be breeding. You can hardly miss this place, it’s like a jungle of flowers on the footpath!
Best of all, the flowers are very reasonably priced and not just the standard ones either — you’re sure to see some you can’t name. Also, the quality is always good, so in an emergency, these flowers are definitely passable as a gift — just combine a couple of bunches and BYO paper = done.

Jairam & Sons is one of the best places to buy flowers from in Auckland. If you’re not needing a fancy florist arranged bouquet and just want a couple of big bunches to brighten up a room, this is the place to go. They always have a big range of flowers, often with something a bit unusual thrown in, and much cheaper than other places around. Their flowers seem to be fresh as they last much longer than those horrible supermarket ones lots of other places have.
Once you’re inside the shop, you’ll find it’s stacked full of goods from floor to ceiling; it can be a bit tricky finding stuff but the friendly shopkeeps are always happy to help. They also, helpfully for someone like me who likes cold drinks but not Coke or Just Juice, have a big range of drinks in their fridges.

Hands down the best diary in the area. Located on Ponsonby Road in the middle of the hustle and bustle, Jairam and Sons Quality Fruiters provide everyday essentials from toothbrushes and toiletries to your favourite packet of chocolate biscuits and fresh fruit. But my favourite thing about this store, the thing that grabs my attention every time I pass it, is their fantastic selection of flowers.
As a real flower lover, I just can’t help but appreciate how healthy and bright their floral arrangements always are, and also how reasonably priced they are! Last week I stopped by Jairam and Sons and was amazed to see a beautiful bunch of about ten multi-​coloured roses only cost $ 6.90! Such a good deal! I noticed even over Valentine’s Day, their flowers were still pretty well priced, which is a lot more than I can say for other florists in the area!
Definitely keep this wee local gem in mind next time you need a decent bouquet, and rest assured — it won’t cost you an arm and a leg!
