The first time I went here we were on a drunken stroll searching for food. We were far too lazy to go too far from my house and we stumbled along Grey Lynn Roast. Absolutely delicious! The best chocolate mousse you can get from a shitty food store. The nicest potatoes. I got a chicken one and there was heaps of food, enough that you could probably only eat half and then save the rest for your lunch the next day, or for a midnight, post-​drinking snack. It’s reasonable priced, about the same as any roast shop, but I really liked it. I went back there a few times while I was living in dirty old Grey Lynn, and while it’s no Westmere Roast, it’s certainly delicious.

When I moved to Auckland and started out in the big wide world, I sometimes just needed a good roast. And this was the place I went. I have to admit they’re not as good as my mum’s but it definitely did the trick. There’s something amazing about a hot roast when you’re home sick.
My favourite is the Pork Roast purely because of a certain crunchy, fatty, salty goodness — the crackling. It’s so, so good, but so, so bad. Oops. Ah well, you only live once right!
They’re actually not too badly priced too, about $ 15 for a large meal, which would honestly feed a small family. Or one really hungry Uni student.
If you’re in need of some extreme comfort food, this is the place to go. Then you should go home, eat it and call your mum.
