Gotham Comics

There is a dire shortage of comic shops in Auckland, and it’s simply criminal that Onehunga, which is ages away from my house, has one of the few.
This place is well established, not just in Onehunga but in the Auckland comics scene. Jeremy (the dude behind the counter) has been a proponent of New Zealand comic art for years, even going as far as starting up a publishing arm to the business.
The shop itself is nice, full without being cluttered and easy to navigate, whether you’re looking for something in particular or just having a browse through the lurid stacks. Their range covers all the usual stuff — superheroes, manga, artsy stuff, nerdy stuff with elves it it — but also has enough obscure or underground material to keep even comic aficionados interested.

I love browsing through this store. I never feel rushed or pressured to buy anything, the people who work here are never in your face like retail assistants sometimes can be.
I was looking for one particular comic which I had when I was kid, it was published by one of the lesser known distributors, I couldn’t even find a place to order this dam thing on the Internet. After having no luck finding it on the shelves I asked the guy at the counter. He really went out of his way to find it for me, a couple of days later it was waiting for me in the store. Great Service.
