F&H is the most charming foodie laneway, North of the Harbour Bridge. Located opposite the Hurstmere Green in the heart of Takapuna, F&H is a great place for a casual meal. The food on offer is perfect for courtyard dining. I’m a fan of El Humero and Kombi Coffee but Dante’s Pizza and Bird on Wire offer some great options too. I love the atmosphere at F&H. There is something really soothing about brick-lanes with hanging gardens! In my books, F&H is the idyllic place for a leisurely brunch on the Shore.

On a sunny but cold Sunday I met up with other Unilocalers to try out Fortieth and Hurstmere in Takapuna, what a great space .I’m sure when it’s filled with eateries it will be a place to go. I imagine live music there and drinks flowing . I’d been wanting to try Bird on a Wire for a while now, after looking online at their menu I decided to go for the chicken Bahn mie and beer battered chips. The Bahn mie was great everything I imagined it to be with a rich pâté and crunchy carrot and lots of coriander, however it was the chips that I liked the most. So crunchy with that fluffy potato inside and just the right amount of seasoning . A awesome place for groups and families.

Kombi Coffee and El Humero have joined Bird on a Wire and Dante’s Pizza. Great venue, and reasonably priced dining in Takapuna.

It’s like an alleyway slice has been transplanted from Ponsonby Central into Takapuna and I’m in love. Went to Birds On A Wire for dinner and it was delicious– so many gorgeous salads in their fridge and they were so generous with the portions as they couldn’t give us a baguette with our whole rotisserie chicken– even though so brand new, they’re churning through people. Their sandwiches had also sold out there was no bread left– must try next time if they’re so popular. Got the Mexican slaw, noodle salad and a beetroot mix– all so colourful, tasty and healthy– winning combination. Cute little brown paper takeaway noodle boxes for the huge leftovers. Such friendly staff and great seating options in doors and outdoors. Definitely have a walk through and you’ll probably find something to eat there– especially as more stores open up

Fortieth & Hurstmere opened it doors this week revealing a stylish lane with multiple dining options. Although currently there’s only Bird On A Wire and Dantes Pizzeria open, once it’s full it’ll no doubt rival P.Central. Watch this space…
