Elite Event: Margarita Masterclass at Mexico

After some tasty red sangria, mingling and having our first photo of the night, the Margarita Masterclass began.
Step up Russ; this guy knows his tequila so we were in good hands, as he walked us through the steps to make our own. I was happy with my first effort, even though it was on the salty side (tip: don’t go too overboard with the salt on the rim of your glass)!
Another table was set up with some other ingredients so we could try our hand at other flavours. I whipped up a passionfruit and peach flavour and was also all over the food on offer.
The three cheese quesadilla really hit the spot — why have just one cheese when you can have three? I also learnt that falafel with beetroot and mint yoghurt, served on a corn chip is amazing.
Totally agree this would make for a super hens night.

Wow! This was amazing! Seriously. I have already enquired into hiring the venue myself for a sneaky hens night (hopefully the bride isn’t reading this!). Oh, and don’t think that means its made for trashy hens nights either — this hen is classy!
Anyway…The venue was fantastic — upstairs private room, we had a bunch of different tables set up which was perfect for mingling with people you didn’t know but you could easily change up the shape for your own needs (maybe a ‘u’ shape?), lighting perfect, can have your own music upstairs, décor mexico authentica!
Lets get right along to food! I know we were there for margaritas but cocktails without snacks doesnt float my boat. I had a mini heart attack over the falafel! I want the recipe so i can be a future gourmet star of any dinner parties i have to go to… it was divine! seriously. veges and non-​veges alike get amongst this! I was constantyl doing the ol’ try to sidle a little closer to the food without looking like thats was exacgtly what i was doing (i know a few of you caught me out!)
OK OK so your bored of me raving already but I’m going to continue — the margaritas were DELICIOUS! Except maybe that sweet one someone (?) made me at the end there. Go easy on the mango sauce — add a little mint and cinammon and your onto a winner! Great instructions on how to make them, fun and interactive process, plenty of opporuntity to make your own (a few times over — maybe we should schedule this for a friday!). Simply delightful!

Had a great time at the margarita master class with the elite Unilocalers. Learnt how it make tasty margaritas with mint and lychee my favorite. The pulled pork was really tasty. Great night thank you Unilocal and Mexico.

It was so fun! I made some lovely new friends while getting so much cool points learning how to be a margherita pro!

I love Mexico and learning to make Margarita’s was such a fun way to spend a Wednesday night. I have to say I completely rated my cocktail making skills, Cucumber, Jalapeño and coriander was the BEST combo. I also loved the Cucumber and ginger one made by our super cute bar tender! Delicious food (don’t mind the 3 cheese quesidilla), great turn out and Alex was amazing, so well spoken. Look forward to the next one!

Margaritas are delicious! That coming from someone who started the night saying «I dont drink Tequila» so why was I there? I wanted to make sure I didnt drink tequila and Unilocal always host cool events. Turns out I do drink tequila, quite a bit of it actually! And, now I know how to make margariats properly, thanks to Unilocal and Mexico I will be drinking even more of it!
The venue was Mexico, an extremely tasty and visually rich restaurant in the city. There couldn’t be a more perfect location for a Masterclass on how to make Margaritas!
Attendees were treated to delicious tapas courtesy of Mexico and tasty sangria and beers before an entertaining and educating tutorial on the history of tequila, margaritas and how to make them. Then we were let loose on perfectly set and themed tables to get creative! What a laugh. I’m afraid I was a little boring compared to the creative and colourful concoctions the girls at our table were mixing. And, being the geek I am I wrote them down on the recipe we were given along with the pads, pens and refreshing Unilocal mints! (oh and I kinda gave away a long past history of bartending but that’s enough of that!)
Passionfruit, Lycée and Mint and traditional were my margaritas of choice but the buffet of ingredients thoughfully supplied by Mexico really deserved further exploration. Apple and cinnamon; rasberry, mint and cucumber; tamarind, salt and vanilla… the combinations rolled, the laugher rang out and an extremely good time was had by all!
A very high standard set for these elite events, can’t wait for the next one! oh and I hope I get invited :-)
Margarita Masterclass is a great event to have with friends, workmates or family, for special events or purely something to do mid-​week on a rainy winter’s night.
The tapas were so tasty, especially the pulled pork and fried chicken, that we stopped at their sister restaurant Mexico Takapuna for a late dinner, more pork and chicken and dare I say it, yes more margaritas, on our way home!

Such a great casual weeknight event! Learnt how to make some yummy (albeit creative) margaritas and the food at Mexico is always delish. Top form from Unilocal and Mexico, well done :)

Such a cool evening — it was such a shame I couldn’t stay longer (or arrive on time). But obviously a really well organised event by Alex. The drinks were delicious (sorry I wasn’t there for the tutorial, but having said that, the bartender was always going to make them better than I could!) and who doesn’t love Mexico’s food. Thanks again!

Didn’t know after-​work classes could be so fun — my favourite invention was chili, basil and cucumber but many more were sampled!
Excellent idea for a bit of mid-​week fun with friends, and would be good for hen’s nights, work bonding etc.
Mexico treated us really well too, making sure we didn’t go hungry.

AWESOME mid week event. Very unique interactive event idea.
The margaritas were so yummy, loved the fact you could choose your own ingredients. Great to be given your own recipe sheet, great way to get everyone involved. The instructor man was awesome, very helpful and knew a lot about tequila!!!
As always the nibbles were yummy!!!
The upstairs of Mexico britomart is a great location too.
Highly recommend taking this master class!

Who knew margaritas could be sooo darn versatile?
Just toss in some fresh lychee, basil, cinnamon sticks, plum purée and/or…hot peppers (okay, so maybe I wasn’t THAT daring) and you’ve got yourself a delectable little beverage. I must say, the lychee, mint & clove combo we threw together was nothing short of PERFECTION.
It’s amazing how the flavors all came together (and slightly embarrassing that my arms are sore from the intense margarita shaking of last night? Clearly, I need to do some push ups in my spare time…).
Regardless, it was a wonderful evening — a big THANK YOU to the staff at Mexico for feeding us a wide sampling of their menu [mmm fish tacos! (and whatever that dip accompanying the triple cheese quesadillas was… seriously good)] and of course to Alex D. for putting on such a fantastic kick off Auckland YEE!
I look forward to the next one! :)

Enjoyable, vibrant event that was fantastically organised, great location, and met some new Unilocalers! Mexico (restaurant) executed gastronomic treats (spicy pizza) and mind-​blowing margaritas, that we learnt how to make in a unique ‘masterclass’.
