Devonport Craft & Fine Food Market

I love craft markets and thoroughly enjoyed this one. So many unique products that are made with love. I particularly loved the little stall that offers girls’ dresses. All the designs looked so sweet. Nice, high-​quality products and a great atmosphere with a crafting area for kids and a small band outside in the food area.
The «fine food» part of this market was also made the trip to Devonport worth it. I tried the gelato, the crumpet stall and the taco truck — all very good. Had the Strawberries and Cream gelato and it was just so perfect — reminds me of the ones we had in Italy. And the single scoop in a cone that I got for NZ$ 5 was really big! Had the chili con carne taco from the taco truck, that was very tasty and had a refreshing cilantro-​lemon twist to it. It was my first time to try a crumpet so I picked the one with hummus and sun-​dried tomato — also very tasty.

This lovely market takes place on the first Sunday of each month– check their website just in case. A little car park behind the Devo Community House where most of the market lives (a few things outside on the main street) and around the residential streets.
A nice local atmosphere with high-​class handmade, vintage crafts and goods. It’s colourful and the beautiful stalls are manned by welcoming owners who are proud of their exquisite creations. Saw lovely prints, gorgeous jewellery, one-​of-​a-​kind homewares and lots of little baby/​kid things.
Definitely recommend when searching for presents– especially for those hard to buy for. You’ll most likely find something neat here.

This sweet handcrafted market is hosted in the Devonport Community House the last Sunday of every month! There’s children’s toys and clothing, jewellery, art, beautiful soaps and candles and delicious preserves.
Perfect for finding one of kind gifts or treasures for the home. Unfortunately, when I went, I didn’t have much cash on me but managed to scrap together some coins to buy two small jars of chutney (mango and one that’s similar to Branston) from Thelma, the lovely lady who makes a fabulous ranges of preserves, jams and chutney.
Oh, and if the juices/​smoothie stall is there it’s not to be missed. At only $ 5 a pop they are an absolutely steal!

A small market with a nice selection of high quality products. Very oriented toward kids but well worth a visit.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the last few years have seen a bit of an explosion of craft markets all over the place. For the most, this is a very good thing, as it both provides places for crafters to sell their wares, and a place for those of us who want something a bit more unique when we are shopping. The downside is that sometimes all these markets can feel a bit «samey». That’s why I quite like to venture north to the Devonport markets, as they tend to have a few sellers that only sell here so you don’t see them all over the place.
I’d say these markets tend slightly towards the «cool middle class family» market, with quite a lot of children’s clothes and toys on sale, so if you’ve got presents to buy for these sort of people, this is a good place to go!
