I came here once when I was craving a slightly more authentic pizza than the fare you can get at your local Dominos. I have heard good things about Calimero, and also it has been here for ages so I thought it would be a pretty safe choice. However, I’m not gunna lie and say I was quite disappointed with what we ended up experiencing at Calimero. For one thing, the service was pretty average; clearly the staff did not want to be here on their valuable Friday evening. Also the pizza itself definitely had room for improvement — out of the two we ordered, neither of which were particularly my favourite and they were both pretty expensive. Not quite sure what all the Calimero hype is about to be honest.

Hidden in suburban East Auckland, Calimero Gourmet Pizza and Pasta Bar is a local’s favourite. Positioned on Long Drive in St Heliers, this pizzeria provides a great opportunity to grab a meal and strolling down to the beach, with it still hot by the time you get there. The pizzas are all internationally themed,(relatively) representing the flavours of a particular city. Must try’s are the Berlin, the meat lovers option, or the New Delhi, featuring tandoori chicken and the refreshingly delicious yoghurt, mint sauce. Always keep an eye out for the regularly changing specials, the calamari was an old favourite. Just ensure you don’t get your pizza too close to the sand, as we did, adding an extra crunchy texture.
