Last week I ate dinner here for the first time, my husband recommended it as he has been here several times for lunch, so this review is based on both our experiences. The lady behind the counter who was also the cook was very friendly and genuine. I ate the chicken katsu, hubby had the very large serving of sushi. Both delicious! The venue is super small, I don’t quite know how a business like this can afford to pay rent when so few patrons can come in at one time. But obviously they do, and I am happy they do so! It is a small bar like seating area, casual and homey feel. Quite nice indeed.

This place is right outside the Capitol Cinema and Clip’n’Climb and because of that foot traffic, I think people are finally becoming ok with it. I say this because it has been around for many years, but it’s always been a bit hard to suss out exactly what goes on here(sushi excluded). While the nice lady owner/operator still doesn’t have a takeaway menu on paper, you can indeed get takeaways from here. You just have to order then wait which is why I find menus on paper so helpful. Calling ahead and all that. Anyhoo, she does finally have a good looking and easy to understand menu on the wall featuring Noodles, Tempura, Donburi, Sushi and the like. It’s your basic Japanese eats but it’s very yummy. There are about half a dozen bar stools if you want to eat in and she does all her cooking right there in front of you. I’m sure there is a particular Japanese word for this style of place but I don’t know what it is. I do know that sometimes her kitchen gets a little… over-used looking but she has an A food rating and it looks and tastes delicious. Good for a quick stop before a movie if there’s free seats — you can always take it across to Potters Park for a picnic if you have a spare 15 minutes to spend crossing and crossing back at the intersection :)
