Food: 3⁄5 Service: don’t know what should it be. You can be the judge. Price: 3⁄5 Environment: 4⁄5 Café Melba located in a very handy location. We have been here a few times. But it gets worse every time. It was a 5 stars 2 years ago. Not anymore in our point of view. We went in and ordered a coffee, muffin and 2 meals from the lunch menu. The coffee and muffin were very standard. Mussels filter, please don’t order it. It had a lot of flour in it, too tough. It was like eating a overnight carrot cake. Another one was a nice fish burger, but too bad. A big bone was found inside my fish. We want to tell the staff so they will be careful next time. A staff came over and we told her there was a bone. She said sorry, what would you like me to do? We said nothing, just want to tell you there is a bone. She then said oh, you just want to call me over. Err, what was that? We don’t even know how to answer her. We continued finishing our meal. There was surcharge 15% and we have a voucher 25% off. So we should get 10% off. We gave her the voucher, and she calculated and gave us a new bill. We didn’t pay attention and paid it. We were waiting for her to give us our receipt for about 10 seconds. She looked at us and didn’t say anything. We then asked for the receipt. She seems reluctant to give us the receipt. We arrived back to the car, had a quick look on the receipt. Omg, she didn’t give us the 10% off and the voucher was gone. She took out $ 1.06 off the total. «Very professional». Omg. Then we knew why she didn’t even ask if we want the receipt. I think this is the last time for us. There are so many nice café Takapuna, their name will never come up in our list again.

Have been a few times– love it’s casual vibe and good food and coffee. Have enjoyed seeing their work of art coffee– and got a cool monkey face on mine. Have had a friend get a cool Gangnam style back in the days when it was viral. Had their pancakes here– which were fluffy with lovely fruit compote and a good choice. Also had their bagel with plain cream cheese which was decent. Definitely need to check this one out– easy to spot, right on the corner of the alleyway, enclosed all in glass. Can’t wait to revisit to try more food and another cool-looking coffee.

I ordered french toast and it was yummy :) hot chocolate was average, wishes it was creamier. The one thing I didn’t like was how tiny the tables were. With our two plates on the table there wasnt really room for much else. It is also on the higher end of cafes. French toast was $ 16.50 and hot chocky $ 5. Service was good and the food and drinks come out timely.

I could say that if you buy a coffee from Melba Café Hurstmere you will never be unimpressed. I’m convinced the barista is trained to perfection at coffee as an art. Whether you are rushing past there café and grabbing a bite to eat on the go, or passing through and spending an hour or so lunching with friends or even better for brunch. Melba has an extensive menu that covers breakfast, brunch, lunch very nicely. I’m sure that whatever you fancy will be on there menu. Great outdoor seating is fantastic out front looking onto Hurstmere road, or along the side arcade. Super service, very attentive and efficient.
