Waking up early when you’re on holiday is always so much easier when you know you’re gonna be rewarded for your efforts with excellent breakfast choices. Featured below are the Eggs Benedict with Bacon and Creamy Mushrooms with Chorizo and Potato from Mission Bay’s very own: Bar Comida. Situated right on the waterfront, with plenty of outdoor tables, there’s no better place to start the day to put you into that holiday mood. Both dishes we tried were spot on, with the poached eggs in the Bene having flawlessly runny yolks and a generous helping of hollandaise. The creamy mushrooms were well seasoned, but got a tad heavy towards the end. All in all, an excellent place to start the day!

On a rainy day in Mission Bay we ran into this café. The place was empty but the staff were super friendly. It boasts that it is the oldest Spanish restaurant in NZ. We ordered the Spud and chorizo crush and the Vegetarian Comida. The vegetarian dish was delicious. It was made of cous cous in half a kumara with spinach and cherry tomatoes. All the ingredients were fresh and it was very filling. My boyfriend and I always have a competition on who ordered the best dish and this day I most definitely won. There was nothing wrong with the spud and chorizo dish however. The flavours were good, and it came with an egg on top. My partner enjoyed it but had to admit defeat when he tasted mine :-)

The food here is very good. Servers friendly and sangria tasty. We rarely visit the same restaurant twice and have in this case. Oh… and their stone fire pizza is half price on wed. ‘Nuff said.

I’m not sure why I come back to this place, it’s probably because one of my mates is a total creature of habit and loves it! I’m more about great food over anything and so this place is pretty average. I’ve eaten here at least 5 times and the food is almost always lacklustre. We mainly get coffees and drinks, I can recommend the pina coladas — these are super yummy! Be sure to look out for their happy hour specials which start around 5. For me not to finish my food, or request a doggie bag is unusual and I’ve always not finished and never asked for a doggie bag here. Their calamari is nothing to write home about, the platters are generous but never taste super fresh especially the meatballs, their breakfasts have always arrived a bit greasy and stock standard, the pizza is probably the best thing from the menu but quite pricey. You pay for eating on Tamaki Drive but you have a view of the carpark from here and average food.
