Apex Car Rentals

Our first experience with Apex started out fine. The staff member who helped us was knowledgeable and kind. Our car was fairly old and beat up, but who cares? As long as it gets you around safely.
Our experience changed vastly when we dropped off the car in Christchurch. The staff member who helped us was brash. He wouldn’t make eye contact and seemed annoyed at our presence. He later yelled in my face and grabbed a taxi man into the situation to humiliate me in the parking lot. I cried and got in the cab.
I ended up contacting Apex about the employee and was ensured the matter would be taken care of and was told I would receive a discount should I use them in the future.
That experience made us not want to use Apex again, however the quick response and apology has made us reconsider. The one employee should not alter our decision and we trust Apex will give better service in the future.

We rented cars from Aukland returned Wellington and Picton returned Queenstown in Sept and October 2014.
We chose them because we did not need any feature other than auto trans. and their good prices as compared to the «big guys».
The cars we had were older an Toyota Camray (an no charge upgrade) from the slightly smaller Nissan we had on the north island.
In Wellington airport one of their employees tracked us down to return a pill container we left on the keychain.
Bottom line we were happy with cars, price and service.

Reasonable rates, offices are a little unorganized, but no problems with the cars. Return was a little confusing since no one was outside to receive the car but they give about an 1 ½ leeway to return and no extra charges. Make sure to take the 20% offer for prepaying for the 1^st tank of gas if you’re going to drive a lot. Then you can return empty.

When my family and some friends came here for my wedding a few years back, we needed something big to ferry them around in. We ended up hiring a big van from Apex which worked out much better than using several cars. We picked up the van a few days before the wedding and drove it home. We noticed there was a stale smell in the van and it struggled with hills. We told them about this and they told us to bring it back to them and gave us a new one. We could not complain about the new one as it got us around for the duration of the time my family spent here. I don’t see however why they could not have given us the good van to begin with. Having said that, they were very friendly to deal with and wished us well with the wedding. We drove all the way down to Rotorua with our party of 12 people and a good time was had by all. Nice memories.

My family have been a long time fan of Apex car rentals now and have used them for many a road trip.
I myself have used them on two roadtrips to from Wellington to Gisborne for the Rhythm and Vines new years eve festival and my parents and friends have used them when they needed a rental car in Auckland.
In one car, on our roadtrip to Gisborne, the radio seemed to cut in and out and when we rang Apex to explain this we were given the option of taking the car back to get another one or get one day off our rental charge.
Another time when I had family visiting Auckland, we planned a trip to the Coromandel. We went into the Beach Road business to pick up our Apex rental car. Although the staff member was in his first few days at the job, he was very helpful and provided us with all the necessary information. He even helped with the somewhat tricky, but essential task of getting the boot open! And explained that old trick of being a European import, having the wipers and indicators switched up on the dash (to what us New Zealanders are used to). This made for frequent hilarity on the actual roadtrip by the way… wanting to indicate a turn and boom wipers are on!
I would not hesitate to recommend Apex car rentals if you are in need of a rental car. They have various cars available from older models to the modern, award winning Ford Focus and I think are at a really good price point compared to other rental car companies. Plus they offer a really good service.
