This café is quite hidden away, with just a modest sign on street level advertising its presence. I didn’t expect the large, comfortable café I was met with when I took the escalator up! Nice, comfy leather armchairs, couches and plenty of tables, some overlooking Broadway below for people watching opportunities. We got a lemon slice and 2 large flat white for $ 12.50 — very reasonable! Coffee was delicious, with pretty latte art, and the slice was yummy. Service was friendly and efficient. We’ll definitely be back!

I wasn’t sure of the name of this café — some call it 255 Café and on the internet, it’s ‘Upstairs Espresso’. Anyway, it’s just on the last block before the Westfield mall and you have to go up an escalator. You might struggle to find it but it’s actually a charming little place for a coffee. The vibe is relaxed and the radio was tuned to a British Jazz station which played some lovely music while I was there. I think in the age of the internet, this is an inspired idea rather than local FM stations playing David Guetta style crap. The coffee here is also very good and their cakes and pastries are good value. The staff are friendly and it’s nice little café to meet a friend or catch up on some paperwork in a calm environment.

Do not be put off by the outdated, mock road sign directing you up a sneaky little escalator. On the first level is a nice and wide café I straight away wanted to describe as «swanky», but in a really nice way. Dark blinds pulled low against a wall of windows, leaving the light of the morning sun skating across polished wood floors and under a leather couch. Spacious without an empty feeling. Classy without being ostentatious. The service was polite and efficient, skirting the fine line of being rude or being overbearing before a morning coffee. My espresso was above average, complemented by some low volume Café del Mar and delicious breakfast scents. If afternoons offered cigar smoking poker tournaments I wouldn’t want to leave.
