—— First Impression —— It’s always hard to choose a place to eat when you know nothing about the area. We already excepted the fate of getting sucked into a tourist trap, so we headed to the beach to play catch with the dog and see the options. We walked along the pavilion of Zandvoort, each of the beach restaurants seemingly quite — as the day was slightly cold and wet. We eventually saw the thin logotype of TENT6 and moved into that direction as this was the restaurant with most light shining in the dining room. After throwing the ball for the dog one last time, we climbed the dune to get a bit closer The smell of a wood stove greeted your nose and you could see many families, friends couples sporadically sitting throughout the restaurant. There did not seem to be much order to it, which was a beautiful thing — Each group had found a spot, ordered a beer, cheese plate or whatever and hunkered down for a meal. The first thing that struck me when we walked through the barn like entryway /dining room was the rustic, but chic feel. — large wooden tables, sitting 10+ people — huge jars with fresh cut wild flowers — old cooking books on the tables — blankets & cushions — wooden plank plates — candles, outside fire pits, wood stoves — open kitchen —— Meal —— Burger: — great homemade buns — homemade mayo — great seasoning — nice sense for the ingredients they use — basic understanding, elevated dish — fries were good but not special Steak tartare: — classic display — spot on taste — presentation could have been nicer — attention to the fine details were given — again fries good, but not special —— Thoughts —— The only real negative point is that the Angus burger was a bit tough… the meat had a very weird consistency and I couldnt tell you why… it seemed rubbery. I would love to see them work on that because the rest of the burger flavor, build, presentation was spot on: You can tell the cooks enjoy their job and care about what they are making. Why not have better fries? you can tell they are cheap… when everything else is hand made — don’t skip on the fries. —— Closing —— Overall Tent 6 inspired me, it was a comfortable & intimate beach restaurant that although didn’t hit all the points, really gave me the feeling that these cooks care about food, care about my time there and want to consistently do better. I look forward to the nice time. Photos
