At first Sijf might seem like a regular eetcafé but it has a nice twist and attention to detail to set it apart. Firstly, the dishes are not paired with with but with beer. And they have plenty of different beers to choose from. Secondly, it has a nice, old-fashioned feel to it. The dark brown wood, the roof over the bar, the stage over the entrance(yes!). It feels a bit higgedly-piggeldy, and very welcoming. And with the bar and waiting staff all in uniform(with braces — a nice touch!), it reinforces that feeling of tradition, reliability and good service. And over the service, we really could not complain. We were there during IFFR when everybody is in a hurry and yet the staff were still understading, obliging and courteous. There are a couple of features that really make this place stand out. The bar itself, partially covered by a roof(customers are sitting above it), is so inviting you will be happy to sit there waiting for your table. In fact, your only complaint of the even might be that you’re not leaft sitting there longer! And then there is the«stage» for wont of a better word. Above the entrance is a parapet where musicians sit and play. It looks like something from a children’s puppet show and can only be accessed by ladder. It’s so cute! I am not in Rotterdam often, but I will certainly make a point of visiting Sijf again the next time I am in town.

The staff was very nice/gracious. Nice selection of Belgian beers :) Good Dutch comfort food. This place is moderately kid-friendly. We had a hard time getting the wifi to work. Prices were moderate. If this place happens to be full… there are plenty of other similar establishments just a few doors down. It’s a nice area to come to, though seemed kind of quiet at night(at dusk the area was more lively).

Landed in Rotterdam later than expecred, found myself booked in hotel hooker, Found a much better hotel. Then went out tired and hungry in search of supplies and supper. Not in the mood for trendy, Dutch comfort good was my goal. SCORE! !!! The roast chicken, juicy teeder, well marinade and prepared, served with a dish of raw veggies slightly pickles in piquant sweet and sour red onion dressing. Crispy crunchy hot fresh chips, a cup of warm jus to round out my plate. Endless chips, desk clerk said spareribs to die for. May have to go back? ??? Would it be impolite, to eat ribs on a train?

Awesome beer selection. Chill atmosphere, but can be really really busy at all hours of any days. Coffee is also decent! Service is good, and the staff is knowledgeable, always helpful with making beer selections.
