W Amsterdam

W is one of Amsterdam’s finest hotels. A lot of effort was put in the interior design. I bet your stay in one of the awesome suites will be an experience to remember. What I as a local like about W, is the fact that it is also a nice place to visit when you’re not staying over. I like the rooftop here. There’s a restaurant called Mr Porter and a bar with amazing views and fun loungy seats. Staff is most friendly and they serve okay cocktails. Not to special. And you have to be patient; during my visits I learned the people working here take their time. Tip: Don’t be shy, open the doors to the balcony and go outside to enjoy the view from up here.

The place to be!
Das W Hotel hat erst vor wenigen Monaten eröffnet und ist momentan sehr angesagt, gerade bei den «Coolen, Reichen und Schönen» von Amsterdam. Ich beurteile hier nur die Bar, weder das Hotel selbst, noch das Restaurant (Mr. Porter), noch den Club (Wet hieß glaube ich).
Man fährt in den 6. Stock (vorausgesetzt man kommt am Türsteher vorbei:-)) und dort angekommen wurde ich positiv überrascht. Die Bar ist riesig und man hat fast ein 360Grad Blick über die Dächer von Amsterdam. Es gibt auch eine große Terrasse zum draußen sitzen. Ok, es ist nicht der 30. Stock aber für Amsterdam ist der 6. schon ganz ok:)
Super modern, minimalistisch eingerichtet, klasse Musik vom DJ, einhetilich gekleidete Kellner und Barmänner, eine Empfangsdame und jede Menge Schickeria & Hipster! Wer da keine Lust drauf hat, bleibt besser draußen.
Ich hatte einen guten Rotwein und meine Begleitung einen Longdrink. Die Preise sind gepfeffert aber so ist das halt in Bars von 5-​Sterne Hotels. Ich fand die Auswahl an offenen Weinen aber super. Es gibt einen Basic-​Wein jeweils in rot und weiß. Wenn man was gutes Trinken will aber keine Lust auf né Flasche hat, gibt es als Rotwein einen Marques de Murrieta Reserva und als Weißwein einen La Croix du Roy Sancerre für jeweils 10 Euro für 0,15l.
Wir waren Freitags dort und es war echt voll! Es scheint aktuell sehr angesagt zu sein. Keine Ahnung wie es unter der Woche ist.
Das Restaurant mit dem Schränken für das Dry Age Beef sah auch super aus und das Hotel ist bestimmt ebenfalls nett gemacht. Es scheint auch einen Club (Wet) zu geben aber das habe ich erst beim Rausgehen gemerkt. Da sind einige relativ leicht bekleidete Damen an einem weiteren Türsteher vorbei reinmaschiert. Ich war zu dem Zeitpunkt aber schon bettreif:-)

Fantastic location and mere seconds from pretty much everything. Rooms are clean, and well put together as you would expect from a W brand hotel. Even though there is active construction and renovation, everything is clean and quiet. Given that this is a brand new location that was a renovation, its got all new bells and whistles. Full room automation for ALL the lighting via digital touch controls, electric privacy and darkening shades, and solid upper tier LG smart TVs with interactive menus and great picture quality. No suites are available yet so im talking about just a standard room here. If this much attention goes into the standard rooms, I cant wait to see the suites when they become available.
Now the best part. The AMAZING staff. These guys are a cut above the rest with friendly faces and smiles. They have consistently made it a point to ensure I am happy and it doesn’t feel «forced» like some places. Folks in the USA should take a lesson from this staff!

Super new so they still have to work out a few kinks. For example, there’s still construction going on and their spa isn’t built yet but most of the hotel is built and ready. It is located like 15 min from the Amsterdam Central and is close to a lot of things! Really awesome location plus there’s a supermarket, Albert Hejin? I think that is what it is called, behind the entrance. They charge for bags at the supermarket fyi so bring your home if you buy a lot.
The décor is awesome, very modern. The front deck is located on the 6^th floor and elevators can be a bit slow because they’re still getting everything ready. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. My room internet wasn’t working the 2^nd day because of the construction so that was kind of annoying. The room itself was called the «cozy room» and cosy indeed it was…
The shower is like outside connected to the sink area. I know the shower glass was frosted so you can’t really see when someone is showering but you can still see their body shape, etc. If you’re staying here with friends it can be AWKWARD. The bathroom is by itself in a closed room and the sink is outside. SUPER COZY. Bed is really comfortable!!! The window shades are cool, there’s a day and night one. Everything was really clean.
I used points to stay here but if you’re going to pay I recommend waiting till they finish construction to stay here. Like I said before, they’re still working out some kinks and this place is a on the pricier side.
