UvA Oudemanhuispoort

The University of Amsterdam is an awesome college to attend if your seeking an excellent education. I selected this University for full purpose of research. I was really impressed with the University on so many levels. I thought my professors were highly knowledgeable in their discipline. They clearly handpicked the finest professors. I was also surprise that they have an American History department in the international part of the University. If I could turn back the clock, I would have pursued my second degree here instead. I would strongly encourage Americans and other international students to participate in their study abroad program or pursue their master degree here. It was a great experience to meet students and faculty from all over the world. UVA offers a variety of international degree programs, hopefully one day they add to their list a Masters or PHD in Education.

I think this location of my new university is one of the most beautiful of the UVA’s locations. At this place you can find the law involved studies. I love how this place is hidden away and you have to go through the little tunnel with the book market to get there. The courtyard is so lovely, especially in summer with the roses growing. Tourists often take pictures here as well because it such a photogenic place.
Inside there are many classrooms but not that much other facilities. There is no restaurant but the Atrium is at 2 min walking distance because it is located in the building next to this one (so it’s almost like it is the same building). Inside Oudemanhuis there is a coffee corner where you can get coffee, tea and other drinks. There are sandwiches and a few pastries as well so I’m glad I can still get my coffee and maybe a snack in between classes.

UVA is a great, centrally located campus in the heart of Amsterdam. I’ve been here for a conference and there are some gorgeous old buildings, canal side so you do feel you are definitely in Amsterdam, despite being in work all day.
The central courtyard area is lovely, with benches dotted around the courtyard, if you need to escape for some fresh air. A grassy area with rose bushes adds a garden feel to the university.
The coffee isn’t great and the food in the atrium is basic — nothing fancy but very tasty.
Its been a good venue for the conference and a nice change from the corporate feel of conferences held in hotels.
