Best coffee in town. Great guys, nice neighborhood. Try their filter coffees or admire the cappuccino art. They also serve food from the neighbors. I come here often and I can definitely recommend

FINALLY! Real hot chocolate! Seriously, if I had to go another winter with warme chocomel, I might scream. There are so few real hot chocolate spots in Amsterdam, and the only other ones I know about are in the center, and in de pijp, so YAY for one being in my neighborhood! This is a small space, so I wouldn’t try to go with a group of people, but to spend some quiet time with yourself or to meet a friend, it’s the perfect spot. I think the prices are reasonable, and they have a nice selection of coffees, teas, and yes, even various hot chocolates. I got the pure, and it’s super hot milk with foam on top and chocolate(real chocolate) on the bottom that you stir it up! It even came with a chocolate covered almond. Staff was friendly and was happy to explain anything you’d like. They even have a few baked goods. Today I saw carrot cake, cinnamon buns, and croissants. Nice find!

I visited Trakteren due to it being on the coffee ‘disloyalty’ card I got from Screaming Beans and it was fairly close to some of the other places I was going to drop by. It is a small narrow space with place for around 10 – 12 people sitting there — most seats at a communal table. The coffee offered are different specialty coffees. When I visited there was a selection of four different as filter. I had a quick chat with them before ordering and was recommended the Indonesian one they had. I normally do not go for Indonesian coffees as they are often to ‘earthy’ for me taste but seeing I had several Ethiopian and Kenyan coffees already that day I wanted to give it a shot. It was definitely a pretty good Indonesian so cannot fault them for that. Nicely prepared and full of flavor and sweetness. I also had a very disappointing foccacia, so do not come here for the food. Service was also annoyingly laid back or rather unfocused — had to wait to order for a fairly long time while they were chatting away with their friends. Also mix up with orders, then another wait to pay. In general it felt as if the customers here are more of nuisance — the people chatting with the staff did not buy anything during the time I was there so mainly appeared to hang around and chat which is fine by me but not when it results in bad service for the(few) paying customers. Still give it a three since the coffee was pretty good but I would doubt I will be back as it I did not like the atmosphere and attitude.
